After a break for the international games this past week, the Premier League returns on Satruday with a full schedule of games taking place from Saturday through to Monday night. However, the one game that has captured the imagination of the public, and one of the biggest games of the season takes place on Sunday at Old Trafford as Manchester United take on Liverpool.

Both sides will have players coming back from injury, but also will have doubts over players that picked up knocks on international duty for their national teams. United’s predicament in the league means that the pressure is on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team to get a result, while Liverpool are hoping to make it nine wins from nine games in the league this season.

Premier League Table

Matchday 9 Fixtures

  • Everton v West Ham United

Pressure is rising on Everton boss Marco Silva after defeat away to Burnley saw the Toffees drop into the relegation zone after Matchday 8. After spending a large amount of money, Everton were expected to realistically challenge for the top six this season but they are falling well short. In contrast, West Ham are doing precisely that and despite a home defeat to Palace last time out, I think they are well set up to get a result at Goodison, though I don’t think it will be a win. Tip – Draw – 13/5.

  • Aston Villa v Brighton

Aston Villa produced their best display of the season last time out emerging as 5-1 winners over Norwich City at Carrow Road. Dean Smith will be hoping his side can produce a similar level of performance and result against a Brighton side who were worthy 3-0 winners over Spurs in Saturday’s early game a fortnight ago. I can’t quite see there being so many goals in this one, and I think both these teams are well-matched so I can see this one finishing all square. Tip – Draw – 23/10.

  • Bournemouth v Norwich City

Two teams that were both beaten last time out come into this game in different frames of mind. For Bournemouth, it is about getting back to winning ways, especially at home where they have a good record this season. Norwich badly need a result after three straight defeats saw them drop into the relegation zone and they have the worst defensive record in the division. I can’t see their situation improving any here. Tip – Home Win – 8/11.

  • Chelsea v Newcastle United

A fine 4-1 away win at Southampton has this young Chelsea team looking up at the top of the table and I feel they are likely to take another step in that direction against a Newcastle side that earned a fine win over Manchester United last time out. However, there’s no denying that Newcastle;s only chance here is to keep Chelsea from scoring and I can’t see that happening here given how free-scoring Chelsea have been this season. This should be an easy home win. Tip – Home Win – 2/7.

  • Leicester City v Burnley

Leicester were somewhat unlucky to lose to a late penalty at Anfield last time out, while Burnley were defeating Everton and the Foxes will want to get back to winning ways at the King Power here. Burnley are a tough side to beat and have started the season very well, but I think Leicester have that extra polish in midfield and attack to open up that Burnley defence and pick up the result that would put them back in that top four. Tip – Home Win – 4/9.

  • Tottenham v Watford

Two of the most dismal performances of the Mauricio Pochettino era at Spurs have seen them lose their last two games, 7-2 at home to Bayern Munich and 3-0 away to Brighton. They have a chance to at least halt that slide at home to a Watford side without a win in the Premier League this season and looking like certainties for the drop. Quique Sanchez Flores needs that first win soon, but I don’t think he will get that, or indeed anything from this game. Tip – Home Win – 2/5.

  • Wolves v Southampton

A couple of weeks ago, Wolves were without a win, in the relegation zone and starting to get a little worries, three wins in a row in all competitions later, including an incredible 2-0 win away to the Champions last time out, and things suddenly look a lot rosier. I expect them to be rosier still following this game against a Southampton side that is struggling for consistency and who tend to struggle on the road. Tip – Home Win – 3/4.

  • Crystal Palace v Manchester City

Following their 2-0 defeat at home to Wolves last week, Manchester City now face a Crystal Palace side that earned a fine win away to West Ham last time out and who beat them in the league last season too. City could also be without Sergio Aguero for this game who picked up a knock on international duty. City rarely lose, let alone two games in a row, so I am expecting a big performance from them in this evening kick off. Tip – Away Win – 1/4.

  • Manchester United v Liverpool

Liverpool come into this game top of the table by eight points and with a 100% winning record in the Premier League, United lie 12th with just 9 points, 15 behind Liverpool and by the end of this game that could be 18. United will miss de Gea if he is ruled out through injury but Martial, Pogba and Lindelof could all return. Liverpool should welcome back Alisson and Matip to strengthen their side still further. I can’t see too many goals in this one, but any that are scored will likely go the way of the visitors. Tip – Away Win – 4/6.

  • Sheffield United v Arsenal

Arsenal have lost just once this season, away to Liverpool, and they have proven tough to beat picking up points away to Spurs and Manchester United. Sheffield United are in decent form and have made a great start to the season under Chris Wilder. Their away record is better than their home though and I think Arsenal can capitalise on this. Tip – Away Win – 10/11.
