What is the Baller League?

The Baller League originated in Germany as a six-a-side tournament that featured a combination of amateur players, semi-pro players, retired former footballers and a wealth if famous individuals from social media outlets and similar.

It proved to be a smash hit success in Germany and in November 2024, it was announced that new Baller League’s would be set up in 2025 in both the United Kingdom and the United States.

Well, the Baller League UK is set to kick off this week, so let’s examine how this six-a-side tournament will proceed.

What are the Baller League rules?

Baller League is based on six-a-side soccer rules, but updated for the new generation of football fans, featuring some twists and turns to the usual gameplay. Outlined below are some of the more standard rules:

  • Games are played indoors on a six-a-side pitch.
  • Games last 30 minutes, 15 minutes per half.
  • 12 teams will compete in the tournament with a host of famous name managers.
  • Each team will have a squad of 12 players (pre-selected in a draft before the tournament)
  • The tournament runs from the 24th March until the Final Four Day on June 11th.

However, alongside these standard rules, there are a number of additional rules which help spice the competition up.

  • In the final three minutes of each half, one or more random additional rules will be added. This will involve any of the following options:
    • The game changing from six-a-side to a 3v3 format.
    • Long-range goals counting double.
    • Goalkeepers not allowed to use their hands.
  • There are no corners. If the ball goes behind off a defending player three times, then a penalty is awarded.
  • Penalties see one player take on the goalkeeper in a 1v1 situation with the player having six seconds to score a goal.
  • Managers of the team can select two wildcards each game week, which means that they can bring in anyone to feature in their team for that match.
  • The MVP on each night of action wins a ‘legend’ for their team’s next game.
  • Managers can select two “wild card” players for their squad on each game night.

Tournament organisers have promised a number of other exciting twists and turns, some of which may not be revealed until the game is underway.

The Baller League Season starts on Monday 24th March and is played every Monday evening over twelve weeks.

The teams will play each other once over the course of the 12 weeks with all matches taking place at the Copper Box Arena in London.

KSI is the president of the tournament in the UK, and players are paid £400 per night each for participating in the games.

Legends and Wild-Cards

One of the most exciting aspects of the new league is the fact managers can pick two Wild Cards each week and that the MVP will be able to pick a ‘legend’ to play for their team the following week.

Who these Wild Cards and Legends are remains to be seen, but the likelihood is that it will comprise of former football stars who are freshly retired, or TV and Social Media celebrities.
