Sports podcasts

30 for 30

Even if you’re not a diehard sports fan, there is so much to love about 30 for 30. This is ESPN’s podcast and they sink a whole pile of resources into making it pretty special.

Typically, 30 for 30 coveries the stories in sports. It delves into human behavior and psychology. There are either meaty episodes of an hour plus that are standalone stories, or even several-part series covering a particular story.

Some of our favorite past 30 for 30s include: Bikram, a sometimes dark exploration of yoga in America; All In, the story of the early 2000s poker boom; The King of Crenshaw, the story of basketball player Nipsey Hussle’s life, death and legacy.

The Players

BBC 5 Live is an excellent place to go for sporting content, particularly for British-centric sports. The Players is just one of many great examples of podcasts that you just need to check out.

Hosted by World Cup and Olympic footballer Bex Smith, this podcast is full of conversations with the most interesting women on the pitch and behind the scenes.

You can expect to hear from stars from the Women’s Super League, along with many other facets of the footballing world. Past guests include Nadia Nadim, Leah Williamson, Kelly Smith and lots more.

The Athletic Football Show

Can’t get enough of the NFL? Well then The Athletic Football Show is the perfect place for you. Hosted by NFL writer Robert Mays, this podcast invites analysts to speak about the latest dramas, gossip and strategy on the football field.

Regular analysts include Mike Snado, Diante Lee and Nate Tice, so you know you’re in for a good time when you listen to this show.

A really good place to get a deeper understanding on the state of affairs of American football. During the football season, this podcast can come out daily (or more often!), so you know you’ll never be behind on the news if you’re a regular listener.

Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson

Whether you know him from the ring or his hilarious The Hangover cameo, this man is an icon. And it feels like such a privilege to be able to hear him regularly on Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson.

Not just a sports podcast, Hotboxin’ also sees the former champ interview people from the wider world. But in terms of sports guests, some previous episodes have included interviews with former NBA players and current podcasters Matt Barnes and Stak, Olympic boxing gold medalist Claressa Shields, MMA manager Ali Abdelaziz and off road racing legend BJ Baldwin.
