Last season, Erling Haaland strolled to the Premier League Top Goalscorer crown. The Manchester City superstar scoring a record 36 goals from 35 games. And furthermore, he added eight assists to that total too.

Haaland’s exploits saw him beat the record of 34 Premier League goals in a season. This had been achieved by Newcastle United striker Andy Cole in 1993/94. Then a year later by Blackburn Rovers hitman Alan Shearer.

However, both those totals came in seasons where the teams played 42 games. That is four more than Haaland’s maximum of 38 for Manchester City last season.

Unsurprisingly, as we head towards the season start, bet365 Sport has a. very appealing market for the top goalscorer of the forthcoming Premier League season.

What Should We Take Into Consideration Before Making a Bet?

There are a number of things that we need to take into consideration here before we make a bet on this market.

The first of those being, which of these players may not be at their current club when the season kicks off?

Harry Kane is the main issue here with the Spurs man being strongly linked with a move away from the club. Bayern Munich seems to be the most likely destination, so that would make me very wary of backing Kane here.

In contrast, the likes of Haaland, Salah, Jesus, Nunez and others remain under long term contract.

Additionally, Marcus Rashford has just signed a lucrative new deal at Manchester United to remain with the club until 2028.

Nkunku is a new signing and will likely be Chelsea’s first choice striker, while Isak and Wilson could end up splitting game time at Newcastle if Eddie Howe decides to play just one up front.

To me, that means that under consideration here should be Haaland, Salah, Gabriel Jesus and Marcus Rashford.

Of those players, only Salah and Haaland have previously won the Premier League top goalscorer title.

And given that Haaland is playing for the treble winners and a team likely to score many more goals than any other, he is the obvious pick for the outright winner market.

What About an Each Way Bet?

However, there is an each way option which pays out on the top four players in the top goalscorers list. And it pays out at ¼ of the odds.

That suddenly makes some of the other options other than Haaland far more appealing as an each way bet.

Here are the four players I would consider as an each way bet alongside Haaland for the top goalscorer award:

  • Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) – 7/1

The Egyptian King has an outstanding record for Liverpool and even in a season ranked as dismal, he scored 19 Premier League goals.

With a new look midfield looking more creative, Salah may well get plenty of opportunities once again this season, if the team fires. Certainly, the Reds have enough talent to do so, especially if Alexander Arnold plays in midfield.

With that tactical move, I can see Salah being good for another 20+ haul this season.

  • Marcus Rashford (Manchester United) – 16/1

The Manchester United man landed a huge pay increase to a purported £400,000 a week recently, making him one of the highest paid players in the Premier League.

That also means that Rashford is going to be Manchester United’s first choice striker for the foreseeable future. With Erik Ten Hag looking to build on a solid start, and Rashford scoring 19 goals last season, I think the England man will be keen to improve on that this coming season.

Depending on how United start the season, I feel Rashford could well be Haaland’s closest challenger if Harry Kane does indeed leave for Bayern Munich.

  • Gabriel Jesus (Arsenal) – 16/1

The Brazilian missed a good chunk of last season through injury and I feel that cost him a chance at finishing in the top four Top Goalscorers last season. He’ll have to avoid injury this year to do that again, but I think he has a great chance.

He scored 11 goals in 26 games for Arsenal last season, which was not a great return but there were contributing factors to that, such as the injury I mentioned previously.

If he can play 34-38 games this season, and with Arsenal’s added creativity in midfield and wide areas, I feel he could score over 20 goals.

  • Christopher Nkunku (Chelsea) – 16/1

Germany-based strikers moving to England don’t have a great record when it comes to scoring goals. Chelsea spent a lot of money on Timo Werner who struggled in England, other big names such as Aubameyang have had some good seasons, but not others.

However, Nkunku could be different. The Frenchman scored 16 goals in 25 games last season for Leipzig, adding to the 20 he got in 34 games the season before. He\s scored 58 goals in 88 games the past two seasons.

He is very much the central striker Chelsea have needed for the past year or so and he could slot nicely into the team.
