It has been a long time since we enjoyed Premier League action in the United Kingdom, but from Wednesday 17th June, the action is set to get underway once again as the four teams who have a game in hand on the other 16 teams in the division will play those two games on Wednesday evening. That precedes all 20 teams heading back to action for the first full weekend of games, from Friday through to Monday.

Following the two midweek games, that will mean each team in the Premier League will have played 29 games, with the remaining nine fixtures set to be played across June and July to complete the season. However, to get the games finished as quickly as possible and to allow for maximum TV coverage, matches will essentially be played almost every day throughout the week over the next month or so. Which of course allows punters plenty of great betting opportunities.

What is still to be resolved in the Premier League over the coming weeks?

While it should be only a matter of a couple of games before Liverpool are crowned the Premier League Champions, the Reds need a maximum of six points to achieve that, and it could be less if Manchester City fail to win all their remaining games, there are still plenty of other key things to be resolved over the remaining weeks.

Perhaps the most exciting at the top end of the table will be the race for Champions League places. With the top four guaranteed a place in the tournament next season, we already know that Liverpool have qualified and it looks extremely likely that Manchester City have too. Leicester City, third on 53 points, are well positioned too as they are eight points ahead of fifth placed Manchester United.

It looks like being a battle between Chelsea, Manchester United, Wolves, Sheffield United, Tottenham and Arsenal for that fourth and final Champions League spot and with at least four of those teams regarding Champions League qualification as almost a minimum goal for the season, it should be a very interesting few weeks.  Teams that finish outside the top four will earn a Europa League place which could well be a huge incentive for teams like Sheffield United.

The other key battle in the division is the fight against relegation. Norwich are struggling and are seven points off safety at the moment, but the five teams above them, Aston Villa, Bournemouth, Watford, West Ham and Brighton are only separated by a few points and it could go down to the wire to see which three drop into the Championship next season and who survives to fight another day.

Analysis

The way that this particular set of fixtures has landed means that there are a lot of potential away victories on the cards here. Given how things have panned out in the Bundesliga, where the lack of fans has seem the home teams advantages severely diminished, and the fact that many of the top teams have away games in this set of games, I do feel that this set of games will see a number of away victories.

In particular I think the likes of Sheffield United (against Aston Villa), Leicester, Arsenal (at Brighton), Chelsea (at Aston Villa) and Liverpool (away to Everton) all have an excellent chance of landing a win on the road.

For me there are two stand out fixtures, the first being Arsenal’s trip to Manchester City on Wedensday evening, where I can see Mikel Arteta’s Gunners being ready to give Manchester City a bit of a test given their improved EPL form of late. However, I still expect City to emerge as the winners in that game.

The other game is on Friday night and sees Tottenham, who will be without the suspended Dele Alli for this game, facing Manchester United in a match that could have a big influence on both teams chances of claiming a Champions League spot next season. Both teams will welcome back some big name players from injury for this game, which should make it all the more intriguing and I feel this one has the potential to be a draw.

The teams in the bottom six have a very tough set of games to play and if any of them can pick up a point, or maybe all three, from this set of games, then they will certainly view that as points gained on their rivals.
