Starting to get that summer feeling? Then it’s definitely time for a preview of Wimbledon 2022!
It’s got to be the most iconic tennis tournament going and we’re incredibly excited to see what this year has in store for us all.
It’s the third Grand Slam (out of four) of the season. First you’ve got the Australian Open, followed by the French Open, then comes Wimbledon and last but not least is the US Open.
You’d think with all those different options, Wimbledon fades into the background. That’s absolutely not the case. It is, in fact, the longest running tennis tournament in the world.
It’s also the last remaining major tournament played exclusively on grass and is widely considered as the most prestigious tennis tournament around.
There’s already a lot to look forward to this summer, from Ireland’s GAA to the Premier League to the WSOP. But Wimbledon, for us, takes is front and Centre (Court) in our minds.
So fill your bowls with strawberries and cream, grab a glass of Pimm’s and join us on a journey for the ultimate preview of Wimbledon 2022.

Dates and schedule for Wimbledon 2022
Every year, Wimbledon starts on either the last Monday in June or the first Monday in July. This year, we’ve got a June start date. The Wimbledon 2022 action begins on Monday, 27 June and runs until Sunday, 10 July.
The schedule is already up on the Wimbledon website too, if you fancy a peak.
There’s a big difference in Wimbledon 2022 compared to other years. For the first time ever, there’s no rest day. Usually, the middle Sunday of the tournament has zero tennis. That leads to a chaotic (but usually great fun) Manic Monday, where everyone in the male and female last 16 play matches.
This year, however, the action is spread across the middle Sunday and Monday, 4 July.
Getting tickets
Another hot topic for this preview of Wimbledon 2022 is the tickets. There’s a maximum capacity of 42,000 per day, which is big. But still demand outstrips supply.
Usually, a public ballot is held every year where you can apply for tickets. Then you may be selected at random to be given the opportunity to purchase them.
However, this year, tickets are automatically going to those who won the 2020 public ballot. That’s because they didn’t get a chance to go in 2020 or 2021.
That doesn’t mean there’s zero way of getting in. If you’re feeling lucky and don’t mind a potentially very long wait, you can turn up to the grounds during Wimbledon 2022 and join “The Queue”. If you reach the top of the queue, you’ve got the opportunity to buy a resale ticket.
A landmark year
2022 marks 100 years of Wimbledon at the Centre Court. There’s going to be lots of celebrations to mark the occasion during Middle Sunday. And the theme, The Stage Awaits, is surely going to add to the festivities. You don’t need this preview of Wimbledon 2022 to tell you it’s going to be exciting!
