After what was an interesting and goal-packed week of action in the Carabao Cup last week, we now know the 16 teams that have made it through into the fourth round of the competition. Spare a thought for poor Leyton Orient, whose game with Tottenham was postponed and who were eliminated from the competition as a result allowing Spurs to progress without playing a game.

With just 16 teams left in the competition, there is always the chance for the big teams to be drawn together in the competition and that is what has happened this week with a number of games pitting two Premier League giants together, while there are other all-Premier League games too, plus a number where lower league sides will be hoping to cause an unlikely giant killing and move into the quarterfinals of the competition.

Things always get interesting when we get to the latter stages of the Carabao Cup and the bigger teams start to face off, as is happening this week, and of course these bigger clashes mean that more people are interested in having a bet on th

e outcome. If you want to sign up and enjoy a bet on the action this week then the place to start is with the latest bet365 Sport New Player Bonus.

Carabao Cup Fourth Round Draw

Kick off is 7.45pm unless stated.

Tuesday 29th September

  • Tottenham Hotspur v Chelsea

This is the second of three games Tottenham will have to play in five days (they play a Europa League qualifier on Thursday at home to Maccabi Haifa) after Spurs already played Sunday, earning a controversial 1-1 draw with Newcastle. Spurs were rested ahead of this round of games by not having to play against Orient last week, but Chelsea did play and a very strong team thrashed Barnsley 6-0 to make this stage of the competition.

Given the fact that Spurs will likely make many changes for this game and their team won’t be as strong as Chelsea, bet365 have Chelsea as the even favourites to win this game and it is hard not to argue with that. Especially when you consider that Chelsea have won all of the last four between the two teams, including a League Cup semifinal win on penalties back in 2019.

Our Tip for Tuesday

Take Chelsea to win this one by a 2-1 scoreline, which is an 8/1 shot with bet365, in what should be a typically hard-fought London derby.

Wednesday 30th September

  • Newport County v Newcastle United (5.30)
  • Burnley v Manchester City (7.00)
  • Brighton v Manchester United
  • Everton v West Ham United

Half of the Fourth Round ties in the Carabao Cup will be played on Wednesday night with three all-Premier League games offering some intriguing action. Newport start their game with Newcastle, who bagged seven against Morecambe in the last round, as the big underdogs and it is hard to see Newcastle (4/9) winning that one.

The rest of the games look much more evenly contested. Manchester City played a very inexperienced side in the last round of the competition and could do the same again here against a Burnley side who also rested key men for their win over Millwall. City are 4/11 to land the win here, but given their 5-2 humiliation at home to Leicester at the weekend, Pep knows a defeat here would be a massive blow for City and I expect him to have a few more first team faces in the team this week.

Brighton and Man Utd face off just a couple of days after an extraordinary game at the weekend, which United won with a penalty awarded by VAR after the final whistle! Strangely, it was a game Brighton dominated and while the Seagulls will be keen for revenge following that unfortunate loss, I think United’s extra strength in depth has them favourites here.

Finally, Everton face West Ham with Carlo Ancelotti’s team at the top of the Premier League table at the moment after a superb start to the season. The Hammers got a thumping 4-0 win over Wolves on Sunday night to kick start their season but I feel that with both teams resting players, this could just go the way of the Londoners whose back up squad is perhaps just a tad stronger.

Our Tips for Wednesday

  • Newcastle to beat Newport (4/9) and Joelinton to score anytime (6/5)
  • Man City to beat Burnley (4/11) and Liam Delap to score anytime (evens)
  • Man Utd to beat Brighton (4/5) and Odion Ighalo to score anytime (13/10)
  • West Ham to beat Everton (4/1) and Sebastian Haller to score anytime (9/4)

Thursday 1st October

  • Brentford v Fulham (5.30)
  • Aston Villa v Stoke City (7.00)
  • Liverpool v Arsenal

The final group of three games is played on Thursday night and starts with a London derby as Brentford, who knocked out Premier League West Brom in the last round face off against Fulham in a game that replicates last season’s Championship Playoff Final and as such, I fancy the Bees to gain a degree of revenge for losing that game at Wembley back in July.

The second game of the night sees Aston Villa in action against Stoke City and I would expect Dean Smith’s Premier League side, who have a decent depth of squad, to get the job done here against Michael O’Neill’s Potteries team.

Finally, we see Liverpool and Arsenal lock horns for the second time in four days after their Premier League clash at Anfield on Monday. I do expect very different teams to contest this game and if it is as exciting as the last clash between the two in this competition, which finished 5-5 with Liverpool winning on penalties, it should be a cracker. This game will likely be very close indeed and we may need extra time to decide the winner.

Our Tips for Thursday

  • Brentford to beat Fulham – 7/5
  • Aston Villa to beat Stoke and both teams to score – No – 2/1.
  • Liverpool v Arsenal – Draw at 90 minutes & both teams to score – 15/4.
