NFL Week 9 Recap – Gameday 9 Review
In NFL Week 9, fans witnessed some thrilling games, some incredible athleticism and unexpected results. Showcasing once again just how exciting, spectacular and occasionally, bizarre, the NFL can be from week-to-week!
The Kansas City Chiefs maintained their undefeated streak by narrowly defeating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 30-24 in overtime. This victory solidified their position as the top team in the AFC.
Meanwhile, in the NFC, the Detroit Lions continued their impressive season with a 24-14 win over the Green Bay Packers, showcasing their strong defense and efficient offense and putting themselves at the top of the pile in the NFC.
The Baltimore Ravens delivered a dominant performance against the Denver Broncos, winning 41-10. Quarterback Lamar Jackson led the charge, allowing the Ravens to bounce back from last week's shock defeat to the Browns.
The Buffalo Bills also secured a close victory, edging out the Miami Dolphins 30-27, thanks to a standout performance by their rookie running back, Jaylen Wright.
We also saw some positives for struggling teams with the Titans and Panthers both winning their second games of the season.
This week, several key storylines emerged across the league. The New England Patriots faced a tough loss against the Tennessee Titans, dropping their record to 2-7. Despite the defeat, rookie quarterback Drake Maye impressed with over 300 total yards of offense. The Patriots' struggles have raised questions about their future, especially with trade rumours swirling around some of their players.
In other news, the Washington Commanders continued their strong season with a 27-22 victory over the New York Giants. Their powerful rushing attack proved too much for the Giants' defense, highlighting the Commanders' potential as playoff contenders.
Meanwhile, the Atlanta Falcons focused on their run-first strategy in a matchup against the Dallas Cowboys, with running back Bijan Robinson making significant contributions.
New Orleans Saints seventh defeat in a row was enough for the board to fire head coach Dennis Allen. Special Teams coordinator Darren Rizzi is believed to be ready to take over as interim head coach until the Saints appoint a permanent replacement.
Allen wasn't the only coach to lose his job on NFL Week 9. The Las Vegas Raiders fired three offensive coaches, offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, QB coach Rich Scangarello and O-Line coach James Cregg after they fell to 2-7 at the weekend.
NFL Week 9 Trade Deadline – Trades Confirmed
The 2024 NFL trade deadline saw a flurry of activity, with 18 trades completed. The Seattle Seahawks made a notable move by acquiring defensive tackle Roy Robertson-Harris from the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The San Francisco 49ers bolstered their defensive line by trading for defensive tackle Khalil Davis from the Houston Texans.
Similarly the Pittsburgh Steelers also made headlines by picking up wide receiver Mike Williams from the New York Jets and also pass rusher Preston Smith from the Green Bay Packers.
The Detroit Lions strengthened their defense by adding edge rusher Za'Darius Smith, while the Dallas Cowboys acquired wide receiver Jonathan Mingo. The Washington Commanders focused on their secondary, trading for cornerback Marshon Lattimore.
The Cincinnati Bengals traded a seventh-round pick for Chicago Bears RB Khalil Herbert. While the Arizona Cardinals swapped a sixth round pick for Denver Broncos LB Baron Browning.
The trade deadline passed on the 5th November at 4pm EST.
