On Saturday, October 5th, Liverpool edged Crystal Palace 1-0 in a hard-fought contest, continuing their strong form. Arsenal secured a comfortable 3-1 win over Southampton, with the Gunners asserting dominance at home.
Brentford played out a thrilling 5-3 win against Wolves in one of the highest-scoring games of the weekend, while Manchester City narrowly beat Fulham 3-2 in a tense encounter.
Leicester City secured a crucial 1-0 victory against Bournemouth, and West Ham United beat newly promoted Ipswich Town 4-1. The day ended with a goalless draw between Everton and Newcastle United, where both sides struggled to break the deadlock.
On Sunday, October 6th, Aston Villa held Manchester United to a 0-0 draw in a gritty affair, while Chelsea and Nottingham Forest shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge.
The weekend’s most exciting match came as Brighton secured a thrilling 3-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur, with a dramatic second-half fightback adding to the excitement of the Seagulls’ impressive victory.

Those results mean that Liverpool head into the International Break with a one point lead at the top of the table ahead of both Manchester City and Arsenal, the two teams that remain unbeaten in the EPL this season. Chelsea and Aston Villa like a little off the pace of the top three after both teams drew this past weekend. At the bottom, four teams remain winless, bottom of the tables Wolves and second bottom Southampton have one point. Crystal Palace have three points, all from draws, and Ipswich lie just outside the drop zone on four points, again all from draws.

Premier League Monday – News And International Break Latest
Problems mount for International Managers after players hit by injury.
A number of players may well be forced to withdraw from international duty after this weekend’s Premier League action after sustaining injuries either during, or before the game played at the weekend.
One such player likely to miss out is Aston Villa’s defender Ezri Konsa, who was substituted early in the game with Manchester United, who saw their own England star, Harry Maguire, forced off with a worrying knee injury at half time. Lee Carsley hadn’t called up Maguire for the current England squad, but Konsa was in the squad and will likely miss out on featuring against Greece and Finland.
It wasn’t just the Three Lions that were hit with injury blows. Brazil may be without first choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker for crunch World Cup Qualifiers with Chile and Peru after the Liverpool keeper was hauled off after injuring his hamstring in the win over Crystal Palace.
It was double bad news for Liverpool on the ‘keeper front as Alisson’s deputy Caoimhin Kelleher didn’t make the trip to London due to illness. The Irishman is expected to be fit enough for Republic of Ireland duty however. Slovakian Vitaslav Jaros came off the bench to replace Alisson and secure his debut for Liverpool. He didn’t concede a goal in those last 15 minutes or so of the match.
Another Reds star may miss out on international duty. Carlos Mac Allister was substituted at half time in the game with Palace with a groin injury, which makes his participation in forthcoming World Cup Qualifiers for Argentina against Venezuela and Bolivia a major doubt.
Other players with minor knocks to keep a close eye on include Morgan Gibbs-White (Nottingham Forest), Kai Havertz (Arsenal), Noni Madueke and Levi Colwill (Both Chelsea).
Other International Break News
Spain will be without Real Madrid full-back Dani Carvajal after the veteran defender badly injured his knee at the weekend against Villarreal. It was a horrific ACL ligament injury for Carvajal and he will likely be out for between 9 months and a year.
His injury has led to speculation that Real Madrid may step up their interest in Trent Alexander-Arnold in January, aiming to bring in the Liverpool man earlier than the summer of 2025. Although Madrid did announce they had extended Carvajal’s contract until June 2026 following his injury.
France boss Didier Deschamps has decided against calling up Kylian Mbappe for France’s next two Nations League games. That despite the fact Mbappe, who is recovering from an injury, has made himself available for club side Real Madrid. Bayern Munich defender Dayot Upemecano is another who will miss out after being injured at the weekend playing for his club.
Argentina will welcome back Lionel Messi for their World Cup Qualifiers against Venezuela and Bolivia. The legend has been back in good form for his club side Inter Miami after recovering from an injury sustained in the Copa America Final in the summer.
