This week we have our first midweek set of fixtures in the Premier League, weather permitting, and it promises to be an intriguing three nights of action which has all twenty teams scheduled to play their next game of the season. The action begins on Tuesday night with a crucial game between the bottom two in the Premier League as Newcastle United face what is probably a must-win game for them against Norwich City. Then we finish off on Thursday evening with arguably the biggest game of the midweek fixture list as Manchester United, perhaps with new interim manager Ralf Rangnick in charge for the first time, will host Arsenal at Old Trafford in what will be a key battle between two teams that have ambitions to finish in the top four this season. And wedged in between them, we have the small matter of the Merseyside derby on Wednesday with Rafa Benitez’s Everton hosting Liverpool at Goodison Park, the first time that Benitez will have taken on his former team as Everton manager. Premier League Matchday 14

Tuesday 30^th November

• 7.30pm – Newcastle United v Norwich City

Is this a must win game for Newcastle United? Given that Norwich are their closest rivals, and it is at home, it most likely is. However, the Toon are without a win all season and Norwich have picked up seven points from their last three games. Eddie Howe is a good manager but if Newcastle are to survive, they need to pick up wins and if they cannot win this game, then they could be in trouble. However, I am backing them to kick start their season with a win here. Prediction – Newcastle 1-0 Norwich City (15/2)

• 8.15pm – Leeds United v Crystal Palace

For me, having watched Leeds this past weekend, there is something missing from them this season. That urgency, pace and fearless football isn’t quite there this year and maybe injuries have played a part in that. Palace come into this game with a defeat against Villa at the weekend fresh on their minds, but I think Patrick Vieira has got this team going the right way and I feel the Londoners can put that loss behind them and take a win here. Prediction – Leeds Utd 1-2 Crystal Palace (11/1)

Wednesday 1^st December

• 7.30pm – Southampton v Leicester City

These two teams have contrasting form heading into this game. Southampton gave lost their last two games, while Leicester have won their last two, including one in the Europa League. The Foxes memorably beat Southampton 9-0 in this fixture a couple of years ago now but I can’t see anything like that happening here. Saints will make it tough for Leicester and may even grab a goal, but I think the Foxes will just about continue their winning streak. Prediction – Southampton 1-2 Leicester (10/1)

• 7.30pm – Watford v Chelsea

After drawing at home to Manchester United at the weekend, this is now a big game for Chelsea. Thomas Tuchel’s men won’t underestimate a Watford side who beat Man Utd 4-1 in their last game at Vicarage Road. However, with Man City and Liverpool now breathing down their neck, I am expecting Chelsea to pull out all the stops and claim the victory here that will ensure that they remain top of the table for the time being at least. Prediction – Watford 0-3 Chelsea (8/1)

• 7.30pm – West Ham United v Brighton

Brighton’s lack of goalscoring threat was clearly evident in the weekend draw with Leeds when the Seagulls missed several great chances to win the game. They can’t be so profligate in front of goal against a West Ham side that have lost their last two games but who have, generally speaking, been excellent this season. David Moyes team need a win to arrest their slide and I think they stand a very good chance of landing that here. Prediction – West Ham 2-0 Brighton (17/2)

• 7.30pm – Wolves v Burnley

Wolves improved form of late has seen them rise through the table into the top half and although they only managed a draw at Norwich at the weekend, they still remain in sixth place after Spurs game at Burnley was postponed. They now take on Burnley who will be well-rested for this game,  but who are now in 18^th place in the table and although they are unbeaten in four, they have just one win this season. I can’t see them adding to that total here. Prediction – Wolves 1-0 Burnley (11/2)

• 8.15pm – Aston Villa v Manchester City

Steven Gerrard will be hoping his excellent start as Aston Villa manager can continue here against Manchester City, but it will be a massive test for the Villains against the Champions and a City team that lie just a point behind Chelsea at the top of the table. A good win over West Ham at the weekend ensured City closed the gap on Chelsea to just a point and the visitors will be confident of landing the win here, even against a Villa side that have won both their last two. Prediction – Aston Villa 1-3 Manchester City (11/1)

• 8.15pm – Everton v Liverpool

This should be an intriguing Merseyside derby. Liverpool haven’t beaten Everton in the past three games (drawing two, losing one), it is Rafa Benitez’s first derby game since taking over at Everton and both sides have radically contrasting form heading into the game. Everton have not won in seven, Liverpool have won both their last two EPL games 4-0. This will be frenzied and feverish as most Merseyside derby games are, but I still feel the firepower that Liverpool possess will be what takes them to the win here. – Prediction – Everton 0-2 Liverpool (15/2) Thursday 2^nd December

• 7.30pm – Tottenham v Brentford

No team apart from Norwich City has scored fewer than Spurs 11 goals in the EPL this season. For a team that has Harry Kane, Son, Lucas Moura, Steven Bergwijn, Dele Alli and more in attack, that is a shocking stat. Brentford got back to winning ways with a vital win over Everton at the weekend and they moved up to 12^th in the table as a result, but this is a tough game for Thomas Frank’s team and I am expecting Spurs to land the win as Antonio Conte’s style starts to take shape. Prediction – Tottenham 2-0 Brentford (15/2).

• 8.15pm – Manchester United v Arsenal

These two Premier League giants have fallen on tougher times of late but both are still in the chase for at least a top four spot and a win here for either team would be a massive result. United may have Ralf Rangnick in charge by this point and it is going to be interesting to see what team he picks for this game. Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are much more settled in my view and I think they have the ability to pick United off on the counter and that could make for an interesting game. This one will be very close indeed in my view.
