We are going to go a little Euro 2020 crazy over the next month or so with the start of the delayed tournament scheduled for Friday evening. This 60th anniversary tournament was supposed to take place last summer across Europe at a number of venues as a celebration of the first tournament back in 1960.
This special tournament, the brainchild of ex-UEFA president Michel Platini, featured a host of venues across Europe and 24 teams competing for the prize. While the grand vision for that tournament has had to be slightly modified, the games will still take place at a variety of different venues across Europe and it promises to be a very exciting event.
Later this week, we will bring you our preview of the Group Stages of the tournament and give you some great insight and tips on which teams we think will make it through from the Group Stage and into the second round of the tournament.
However, in this article, we are going to warm you up for the tournament by giving you some of the best outright market tips for the tournament, focusing on three of the most popular betting markets. Who will win the UEFA Player of The Tournament, who will be the Top Goalscorer at the tournament and lastly, which team will be the overall winner of Euro 2020.
As always, if you want some of the best football betting then bet365 Sport is the place to head as the site offers extensive coverage of Euro 2020, including a massive choice of In Play betting services for when the matches are in play, in addition to its wide range of other pre-match bets.
Remember too, if you have used bet365’s unique bet credit system when joining up, then you may also have some of those credits available for you to bet with.
As good as bet365 is, it is not available everywhere so if you need an alternative, especially if you are based in the United States, then BetRivers Sportsbook is a great option as it is available in many different states and offers excellent betting on soccer across the world.
So let’s begin by taking a look at this trio of markets, starting with arguably the most popular one in terms of the number of bets likely to be made on it; the Outright Winner of Euro 2020.
Euros Outright Winner Market
As you can see from the screenshot above, France are the 9/2 favourites with bet365 to win the tournament ahead of England on 5/1, Belgium on 11/2, Germany on 7/1 and Spain and Italy 8/1 alongside the current holders, Portugal.
Outside of that group, the Netherlands are the next most fancied team at 14/1, but the odds then quickly increase to 25/1 for Denmark, 33/1 for Croatia and then it is 50/1 or greater for the remaining teams.
For me, the winner has to come from the top eight teams in the betting, the question is who to back.
Belgium are the highest ranked team in world football, but they have never won a major tournament as yet and a nasty injury to Kevin de Bruyne in the Champions League final has given them a real injury worry on the eve of the tournament, although he should be fit enough to play, perhaps in a protective mast.
I think Spain and Germany are very much in a transitional phase at the moment. Spain are rebuilding under Luis Enrique and their squad isn’t as strong as it has been in previous years. The same can be said of Germany, who will also see Joachim Low bow out as manager after this tournament.
Portugal are always a tough side to beat and in Cristiano Ronaldo, they have a player capable of winning games on his own, but I think winning back to back European Championships is a tall order.
France would be a real consideration as World Cup holders and having a very strong and proven squad at this level. England, with the latter stages of the tournament all taking place at Wembley, could also be a real threat if they reach the semifinal stage.
For me though, Italy are the team to back here. They have been quietly rebuilding for a number of years now, they look super-strong defensively under Roberto Mancini and they are a team who knows how to win games even when not playing well or dominating possession. I think at 8/1, they are the outstanding bet here.
Tip – Italy – 8/1 with bet365.
Euros Top Goalscorer Market
The top goalscorer bet for Euro 2020 will be another popular market and it is not surprising to see the biggest attacking talents heading the list of players to consider here.
Harry Kane leads the way at 11/2, with Romelu Lukaku at 7/1, Kylian Mbappe at 9/1 and Cristiano Ronaldo at 12/1.
To consider this market fully, you really need to look at the groups and try to figure out which ones will see games with lots of goals scored. I think Group F, which features France, Germany and Portugal, but which also has a host team in Hungary, will be one where goals are few and far between.
Group A, which features Italy, Switzerland, Turkey and Wales also looks tight. However, I think Group B offers Belgium a chance to score some goals, especially against the likes of Russia and Finland, while the Netherlands in Group C should be confident against North Macedonia, Austria and Ukraine.
I can see the Netherlands pushing on into the latter stages of this tournament along with Belgium too and as such, I think Lukaku at 7/1 or Depay at 16/1, are the top picks here with Lukaku being my first choice given his form for his club and country this season.
Tip – Romelu Lukaku (Belgium) – 7/1 with bet365.
Euros Player Of The Tournament Market
It’s generally pretty rare for a player to win the UEFA Player Of The Tournament to come from another team other than the winner. In the six previous awards of the trophy, the player to win it has played on the winning team (only Antoine Griezmann in 2016 missed out and he played for the runners up France).
With me backing Italy to win the tournament, then I think the likelihood is if they do, then the UEFA Player Of The Tournament would likely be Italian and if that is the case, then I think their defence will be key. As such, I think the veteran Giorgio Chiellini at 66/1 is worth considering, as is their main creative threat Lorenzo Insigne at 80/1. However, Italy will need to score goals to win this and as such, Ciro Immobile at 50/1 would be my pick here.
Tip – Ciro Immobile (Italy) – 50/1 with bet365.
That is our tips for the biggest outright markets for Euro 2020 in the bag. Remember to tune in later this week when we will preview the group stages of the tournament and give you some of the best-looking tips for the first set of games coming up across the first few days of this eagerly anticipated pan-European festival of football!
