If Gameday 1 of the new NFL season went pretty much as expected, our weekly NFL recap for Gameday 2 will show that this wasn’t the case in many games this past week!
In fact, it was revenge for the underdog in many games with some big name teams suffering early season defeats.
So let’s take a closer look now at what happened in Gameday 2 that proved to be so surprising.

Weekly NFL Recap: NFL News Stories from Gameday 2
Tua Tagovailoa’s concussion injury is a real concern for Miami Dolphins. The quarterback has suffered a number of similar injuries in the past and had been linked with retiring following a previous concussion suffered last season. It remains to be seen how long the QB will be on the sidelines.
Rams duo Jimmy Garoppolo and Alaric Jackson have had their suspensions lifted by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell effective as of the 16th September 2024.
NFL Transactions – Gameday 2

Gameday 2 – NFL Injuries
A number of top players have already gone down with injuries over the first two weeks of the season. Including:
QB Tua Tagovailoa (Dolphins) – Suffered a concussion in the loss to Bills and has been placed on IR and is expected to miss four weeks.
RB Christian McCaffrey (49ers) – Injury is worse than feared and he has been placed on IR so will miss at least four weeks of the season.
RB Isiah Pacheco (Chiefs) – Pacheco will be out for six to eight weeks with a fractured fibula.
WR A.J.Brown (Eagles) – Brown suffered a hamstring injury in training and missed the Eagles loss to the Falcons. He is unlikely to play in Week 3 or Week 4.
WR Deebo Samuel (49ers) – Strained his calf in the defeat to the Vikings and will miss several weeks.
DT DeForest Buckner (Colts) – Injured his ankle and has been placed on IR.
DT Vita Vea (Buccaneers) – May miss a lengthy period of time with a suspected MCL sprain.
LB Jeremiah Johnson (Jets) – Likely to be out for the season with a torn Achilles.

- New England Patriots (1-1) @ New York Jets (1-1) – Live on Sky Sports
New England’s better than expected start to this season makes this an intriguing match up in the context of the AFC East. With Buffalo starting well and Miami 1-1, the winner of this game could end up with a big advantage in the division come the end of the season. The Jets will start favourites but the Patriots will make this a lot closer than many people expect.

There’s a couple of intriguing matches here including the Texans and Vikings putting their 100% records on the line, the impressive Saints hosting a wounded Eagles and a great match up in Phoenix where the Cardinals host the Detroit Lions in a battle of two of the better 1-1 teams. The second game of the night live on Sky is also a cracker as the Ravens seek to earn a first win against a Cowboys team well-beaten last week by the Saints.
Monday 23rd September – 1.20am
- Kansas City Chiefs (2-0) @ Atlanta Falcons (1-1) – Live on Sky Sports
Was the Falcons win over the Eagles a one-off, or are they for real? Fans will find out when they take on the current Super Bowl Champion, the Kansas City Chiefs in Sunday night/Monday morning’s late game.
Tuesday 24th September – 12.30am, 1.15am
- Jacksonville Jaguars (0-2) @ Buffalo Bills (2-0) – Live on Amazon Prime
- Washington Commanders (1-1) @ Cincinnati Bengals (0-2) – Live on Sky Sports
Two games on Monday night, one on Amazon Prime sees the Jaguars and Bills meet up once again with Buffalo very much the form team. The second game is intriguing and pits the 0-2 Bengals against the 1-1 Commanders, who have surprised a few experts already this season with their competitiveness.

- New Orleans Saints (9) – Beating the Panthers is one thing. Destroying Dallas in Dallas? That’s big!
- Kansas City Chiefs (2) – Nervy at times against the Bengals but got the job done once again.
- Buffalo Bills (6) – Josh Allen is arguably the form QB in the league at present.
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers (12) – Baker Mayfield is throwing and flowing and the Bucs look good!
- Minnesota Vikings (10) – A huge win for the franchise over the 49ers at the weekend.
