After a busy week of international games, which saw many teams playing three times, the action this weekend returns to focus on domestic action and it is going to be an interesting weekend as the first game will see top of the table Everton taking on a Liverpool side that will be licking its wounds following their 7-2 mauling at the hands of Aston Villa ahead of the international break.

Other big games see Manchester City face Arsenal at Saturday tea-time in the UK, while later on in the evening Manchester United look to bounce back from their 6-1 home mauling by Tottenham last time out as they face a tricky trip to Newcastle United, managed by ex-United stalwart Steve Bruce.

Premier League Fixtures – Matchday 5

  • Everton v Liverpool

Top of the table Everton take on their city rivals with their positions in the tables probably very different to what most people expected. Liverpool’s shocking 7-2 loss at Aston Villa, which could have been even worse, has many people wondering if Jurgen Klopp’s team have an achilles heel. Everton, with their brand-new midfield sparking the team into life and Dominic Calvert-Lewin in great goalscoring form, could be the team to test that theory. Games at Goodison have had few goals in recent seasons and I think this will be similar. Tip – Draw – 16/5.

  • Chelsea v Southampton

Two teams that have strong current form head into this game at Stamford Bridge and this should be a decent game. Chelsea have not really shown their best form consistently this season but they looked on the money in the second half against Palace last time out. Southampton have won their last two, but I think that run comes to an end here. Tip – Chelsea to win – 9/20.

  • Manchester City v Arsenal

Mikel Arteta heads back to his old stomping ground to take on his former boss Pep Guardiola in what is another of Saturday’s huge clashes. Arsenal beat Man City in the FA Cup semifinal last season and they will be looking to do likewise again here. City have lost to Leicester and drawn with Leeds in their last two and this could be a real test for them too against Aubameyang’s pace. City usually win this one comfortably but now I am not so sure – Tip – Arsenal to win – 11/2.

  • Newcastle United v Manchester United

Steve Bruce has steered Newcastle to 9th in the table, while Man Utd lie in a miserable 17th place after two defeats and a win from their opening trio of games. This is a big test for Solskjaer’s men and with a number of key players likely to miss out, including new signing Cavani, Newcastle will fancy their chances here. I can’t see too many goals in this game but I do think that one United will be celebrating come the final whistle. Tip – Manchester United to win – 8/13.

  • Sheffield United v Fulham

The bottom two clash at Bramall Lane in what is a must-win game for both sides even at this early stage of the season. Fulham’s struggles were probably predictable but Sheff Utd, after such a good season last year, are surprising to see struggling. I don’t think that continues here as I think this is going to be a solid win for the home team. Tip – Sheffield United to win – Evens

  • Crystal Palace v Brighton

Sunday’s second game sees one of the more unusual rivalries in the Premier League renew itself as Brighton travel to Selhurst Park. I think both these teams have made decent starts to the season even if Brighton have not picked up as many points as their performances have merited. I feel they could be on to a chance of a win here though against a Palace side that have lost their last two. Tip – Brighton to win – 7/4.

  • Tottenham v West Ham United

After thrashing Man Utd 6-1 last time out, Spurs face their old London rivals West Ham in this Sunday afternoon kick off. Buoyed by that win, I expect Spurs to be in fine fettle here but West Ham’s recent form is also much improved and they have been a problem for Spurs in the past. However, I think the home side pick up the points here. Tip – Tottenham to win – 4/7.

  • Leicester City v Aston Villa

Third in the table takes on second as unbeaten Aston Villa head to Leicester to put that record on the line. The Foxes, who themselves were well-beaten last time out by West Ham will want a response from that poor defeat but they face a Villa side who are the form team in the Premier League heading back over the last few weeks of last season too. This should be an intriguing match up but I feel this is where Villa’s bubble may just burst. Tip – Leicester City to win – 4/5.

  • West Brom v Burnley

The first of Monday night’s games sees West Brom take on Burnley in what is a must win game for both teams. West Brom have just one point from four, Burnley 0 from three and as such, both are perilously close to the drop zone. Both teams will feel this game offers them a chance of three points but I feel that Burnley’s extra quality in defence and midfield will shade this for them. Tip – Burnley to win – 2/1.

  • Leeds United v Wolves

Two of the teams that many people expect to have good seasons and perhaps challenge for European places meet at Elland Road in what should be an expansive and open game. Of the two, I think Leeds have the better form and the way they have played against Liverpool and Man City should stand them in good stead here. That said, I do feel Wolves have enough quality to snatch a draw on the counter. Tip – Draw – 23/10.
