Usually, when we have a summer of football tournaments, the transfer market is pretty busy. However, this summer has been slightly unusual, as there have not been as many summer transfers as usual.
Whether this is due to the effects of Financial Fair Play hitting home, or simply that clubs do not want to spend money this summer, or the right players are not available. Who knows?
However, with the transfer window still open for a good while yet, there’s still plenty of scope for some major deals to happen over the coming weeks.
The question is, will these summer transfers happen, or won’t they?
So in true Mystic Meg style, we are going to predict whether some potential summer transfers will, or will not happen this summer and give you are reasons why.
But before we prove to be either a Mystic Meg or a Septic Peg, let’s first recap some of the big deals that have happened this summer.

- Kylian Mbappe – (Paris St Germain to Real Madrid)

Mystic Meg or Septic Peg – Will These Potential Transfers Happen in the Summer of 2024?
One thing to note is that bet365 Sport does offer a wide range of markets on potential transfers over the summer. You can find them in the Specials section of the site under Transfer Specials.
So with that in mind, we are going to give you the odds on some of the potential destinations for the following players. You can bet on these players moving in the summer transfer window at bet365 Sport right now.
The odds shown are for the player to be at the stated club on the 5th September 2024, when the summer transfer window closes.
Marc Guehi (Crystal Palace) DC
- Crystal Palace – 1.72
- Liverpool – 6.00
- Manchester United – 7.00
- Arsenal – 9.00
- Real Madrid – 11.00
- Chelsea – 15.00
- 17.00 bar.
Perhaps England’s best player at the Euros, the Palace defender has increased his profile markedly following Euro 2024. So much so, Palace could well cash in to the tune of over £50m for the defender. Liverpool are keen and have not spent any summer transfer money this season. Could Guehi come in as a long-term option instead of Matip?
Verdict – Palace don’t need to sell, but the lure of Liverpool may be too much for Guehi to turn down. Expect a late window move by the Reds to sign him up.
Victor Osimhen (Napoli) AC
- Paris St Germain – 2.00
- Napoli – 4.00
- Any Saudi Arabian Team – 4.50
- Chelsea – 8.00
- Arsenal – 15.00
- 26.00 bar.
After an unhappy time at Napoli, including falling out with his manager, Victor Osimhen seems set for a move. But where will he go? Arsenal and Chelsea were mooted as possible destinations, although his asking price of likely around £100m will put off some.
That won’t faze PSG who need a big name striker to replace Kylian Mbappe and Osimhen should be their man in the summer transfer window.
Verdict – It’s probably only a matter of time before PSG unveil Osimhen as their new number 9.
Eberechi Eze (Crystal Palace) AMC
- Crystal Palace – 2.00
- Tottenham – 4.00
- Man City – 4.50
- Arsenal – 11.00
- Liverpool – 15.00
- 17.00 bar.
The talented Eze could be another Eagle flying the nest this summer. Palace don’t have to sell following the sale of Michael Olise, but another big payday could be on the cards here. Palace fans will fume if more talented players are allowed to leave, especially after their promising end to the season.
However, the lure of a big money summer transfer move could well tempt Eze here and that has to be a consideration, especially with another talented young player moving on.
Verdict – Eze to make the switch to Tottenham.
Conor Gallagher (Chelsea) MC
- Chelsea – 1.72
- Atletico Madrid – 2.75
- Aston Villa – 11.00
- Tottenham – 17.00
- 21.00 bar
I found it odd that Chelsea named Gallagher a captain, yet he was constantly being linked with a move away from the club. He didn’t have a great summer with England, but it seems unlikely that Chelsea will look to move him on, especially with a new manager installed at the club.
Gallagher won’t be one moving on a summer transfer I feel.
Verdict – Gallagher to stay at Chelsea.
Kalvin Phillips (Manchester City) DMC
- Everton – 2.50
- Juventus – 6.00
- Manchester City – 7.00
- AS Roma – 8.00
- Fulham – 10.00
- Newcastle United – 11.00
- Leeds United – 11.00
- Barcelona – 11.00
- West Ham – 13.00
- 17.00 bar.
Kalvin Phillips time at Manchester City looks over. Criticised and labelled fat by his manager, and a poor loan spell at West Ham means that City will likely want to offload him from the wage bill.
Everton have been forced to sell to comply with FFP rules and they need a reinforcement in midfield. This looks like being a summer transfer the Toffees may well be very interested in. However, his wages could be a sticking point.
Verdict – Phillips to move to Everton, but City may have to pay a percentage of his wage.
Dani Olmo (Red Bull Leipzig) AMC
- Barcelona – 2.37
- RB Leipzig – 3.25
- Manchester City – 5.00
- Atletico Madrid – 9.00
- Bayern Munich – 13.00
- Chelsea – 15.00
- 17.00 bar.
The Spanish international was one of the stars of the tournament, despite starting from the bench in a number of early games. Currently with Red Bull Leipzig, his performances have drawn many admiring glances from teams across Europe.
Barcelona’s financial position may mean a deal there may not be on the cards. Manchester City could be a contender, but only if Kevin De Bruyne were to leave. That won’t happen this season I feel. Atletico Madrid have made some room in midfield of late, so I feel they may be a good option here.
Verdict – Olmo to move to Atletico Madrid.
Aaron Ramsdale (Arsenal) GK
- Arsenal – 3.50
- Wolves – 4.00
- Newcastle – 5.00
- Southampton – 6.00
- Atletico Madrid – 9.00
- Chelsea – 13.00
- 17.00 bar
Ramsdale’s first team chances at Arsenal look limited now the Gunners have made David Raya’s signing from Brentford permanent. A move away looks to be the only way Ramsdale can keep his England dreams alive.
The question is, where would he move to? None of the options listed above is a simple option for Ramsdale to move into the Number 1 jersey.
So while Ramsdale will undoubtedly want a transfer, and Arsenal may seek to sell, there isn’t a realistic suitor at present as things stand. So for the time being we’re saying Ramsdale may stay put for the time being and instead be sent out on loan.
Verdict – Stay at Arsenal but seek a loan move.
