Let’s take a look at some of the transfer news rumours ruminating and reverberating ’round the rumour-mill!
Arsenal have received a significant boost in their pursuit of Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres. The Gunners were linked with the Swedish international during the summer transfer window.
Reports from Football Transfers suggest that Sporting Lisbon are becoming resigned to the fact that Gyokeres will leave the club. Sporting would be willing to sell Gyokeres to Arsenal in the January transfer window.
Despite having a release clause worth €100 million (£85 million), Sporting might accept a lower fee. This development could be a game-changer for Arsenal as they look to bolster their attacking options.
The Gunners were one of a number of clubs that missed out on Napoli’s Victor Osimhen this summer.
Mikel Merino has been sidelined with a shoulder injury since his first training session after arriving from Real Sociedad. Mikel Arteta confirmed that Merino would be out for several weeks recovering from the injury. A theory has emerged online suggesting Merino may be edging closer to a return.
Merino was spotted not wearing a sling on his injured shoulder during teammate David Raya‘s birthday celebrations on Sunday, following Arsenal’s victory over Tottenham in the North London Derby.
This sighting has fueled speculation that Merino could be back in action sooner than expected, which would be a significant boost for Arsenal’s midfield.
Former Arsenal star Lee Dixon praised the players at the heart of Arsenal’s defence for their success under Mikel Arteta. Dixon highlighted that the back four are very committed and mentioned left-back issues due to Jurrien Timber’s injury last season.
Both full-backs had great performances against Spurs, effectively dealing with Tottenham’s dangerous players Son and Johnson. He praised centre-backs Gabriel and William Saliba, calling them the best partnership in the league, noting Gabriel’s exceptional positioning and appetite for defending.
David Raya has been solid since joining and Ben White remains a consistent performer at right back. Dixon enjoys watching this back four as they truly enjoy defending, which is sometimes overlooked by other teams.
Bayern Munich and Germany starlet Jamal Musiala is on the radar of a number of Premier League teams according to reports.
As such, Bayern Munich have moved quickly to try and tie up the young superstar on a long-term contract, with Musiala’s current deal expiring in 2026.
Despite their hearing into 115 alleged breaches of Financial Fair Play rules starting, Manchester City are one of a number of Premier League clubs interested in the German international, with Liverpool and Manchester United also believed to be keen on the player.
In other Bayern news, Leroy Sane is believed to be attracting interest from the Premier League. The German winger is thought to be a top target for Newcastle United.
Midfield Joshua Kimmich, mooted to be interesting Liverpool last summer, is believed to be ready to renew his deal with Bayern Munich, which expires this summer. Although reports in Spain suggest the Germany star could be tempted to join Barcelona instead.
Liverpool are believed to be keeping close tags on new England international Angel Gomes. The former Manchester United star is at Lille, where he has impressed in the number 6 holding role in midfield.
Newcastle United are also said to be keeping tabs on the busy midfielder.
If Liverpool do make a move for Gomes this would allow Wataru Endo to move on after the Japanese star fell down the pecking order at Anfield since Slot arrived.
Real Madrid are fresh from signing Kylian Mbappe from Paris St. Germain this summer, but they are already lining up what is believed to be a treble swoop for Premier League superstars next summer.
Liverpool full back Trent Alexander-Arnold, Manchester City midfielder Rodri and either Arsenal centre back William Saliba or Spurs centre half Cristian Romero are thought to be on Madrid’s hit list for next summer.
In unrelated news, Rodri has suggested that players could go on strike unless football’s governing bodies work to reduce the workload of top players in the world, citing the expansion of the Champions League and the forthcoming FIFA Club World Cup competition.
