After the staggered weekend of action across the past two weeks, the Premier League returns to a full complement of games this weekend with the action getting underway on Saturday lunchtime as Chelsea welcome Tottenham to Stamford Bridge in what should be a feisty London derby. There’s plenty of other big games too with Leicester facing Manchester City in the evening game and then on Sunday Arsenal face Everton at the Emirates.

With Liverpool having a huge gap at the top of the table, it seems impossible to think that the Reds will not win the title, but the race for places in next season’s Champions League is now on, especially with Manchester City now seemingly banned from European competition for two seasons. Could the team finishing in 5th place be handed a Champions League reprieve?

Premier League Matchday 27

Chelsea v Tottenham

It’s been a rough run of results for Chelsea of late as they have seen their once large lead in fourth spot slowly eroded over time to the point where a win for Spurs in this game on Saturday would see them move into fourth in the table. Indeed, if Chelsea lose, they could drop to 7th in the table if other results go against them. Spurs are in better form now but the news that Son could miss the rest of the season is a massive blow for the team and without his attacking flair, I think this game is most likely to finish as a draw – Tip – Draw – 3/1.

Burnley v Bournemouth

Two sides who have generally had better recent form of late, but of the two I think Burnley are not only in the better form, but I think are a stronger, more rounded side. Bournemouth are capable of springing an upset against anybody though, but I just feel Sean Dyche’s team is on that final push now to make themselves safe in the Premier League for another year and I expect them to pick up another three points here towards that aim. – Tip – Burnley to win – 21/20.

Crystal Palace v Newcastle United

Two of the most shot-shy attacks in the league clash at Selhurst Park in a game that doesn’t inspire great confidence that fans will be treated to a deluge of goals. With both teams form also being somewhat erratic, picking the result here is also tough and while I think home advantage usually is key in these games, Palace are just so inconsistent at home it is hard to argue that here. I think Newcastle could battle their way to a point in this one. Tip – Draw – 12/5.

Sheffield United v Brighton

There is no doubt for me that aside from Jurgen Klopp, Chris Wilder has been the manager of the year in the Premier League this season and he will be hoping to continue his side’s great run of form at home to a Brighton side that have been in a state of decline for some time. The Blades are so tough defensively and have a very good home record and in truth, even the Seagulls at their best would find this one tough. Tip – Sheff Utd to win – 10/11.

Southampton v Aston Villa

Both these teams have won one and lost two of their last three games but I feel at the moment, Southampton are playing the better football. The problem is that the Saints have woeful home form this season with just three wins in front of their home fans. Villa’s away record isn’t that great and in truth, I think this is a game that may be decided by a single goal. Southampton are long overdue a home win and I think this is the weekend they will get it. Tip – Southampton to win – 4/7.

Leicester City v Manchester City

Third takes on second in the table at the King Power, but I feel this is a game which has swung in Manchester City’s favour. The Foxes recent form has not been that great and City in contrast, have been in good form of late. Pep Guardiola’s team will want to put their miserable week regarding their ban from Europe behind them here and although this is a tough game, it is one that I expect the visitors to come out on top of. Tip – Manchester City to win – 8/11.

Manchester United v Watford

Watford shocked Manchester United to win when these two teams met at Vicarage Road in December but I think the Hornets, who have not won in four games, may find this trip to Old Trafford a tough one. United did well to win once again at Chelsea last weekend and with a potential Champions League berth now on offer for a fifth placed team, and fourth place not that far off, I can see them being very focused on getting the win here. Tip – Manchester United to win – 3/5.

Wolves v Norwich City

After putting up a good fight against Liverpool last week, Norwich now travel to Wolves to take on a team that has the joint second-fewest defeats in the Premier League this season (with six). Wolves have proven hard to beat but have drawn 12 of their 26 games, which has seen them drop to 8th in the table. However, this should be a game where they get back to winning ways. Tip – Wolves to win – 1/2.

Arsenal v Everton

Arsenal have drawn a league high 13 games this season, while Everton have drawn just six. The Toffees and Gunners are both unbeaten in their last five games, although Everton have picked up more points in that spell to lie 2 points above Arsenal. The Gunners did beat Newcastle 4-0 at home last week, but I think Everton are a tougher prospect. As such, I think this one will end in a draw. Tip – Draw – 13/5.

Liverpool v West Ham United

The final game this week takes place on Monday night with Liverpool taking on West Ham at Anfield. The Reds suffered a rare defeat last time out to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League but their form in the league and at Anfield is exemplary and there seems to be little chance for this out of sorts West Ham side to get a result here. This should be an easy win for the Reds. Tip – Liverpool to win – 1/6.
