It’s been an intriguing start to the Premier League season and after just three weeks of the season we have only one team with a 100% winning record, while only one team has a 100% losing record. 18 teams out of the 20 in the division, have won a game this season, while one team, Wolverhampton Wanderers, have drawn all three of their matches so far.

We’ve also had our fair share of incident and shocks, including Newcastle’s surprise victory over Tottenham and Crystal Palace’s fine win over Manchester United at Old Trafford, both of which occurred last weekend in a weekend that saw just one team win at home out of the ten matches played.

All in all this sets things up very nicely for the forthcoming weekend of action.

Premier League Matchday 4 Preview

With no Friday game this week, Matchday five begins on Saturday lunchtime with Man Utd’s trip to Southampton with the final game of the week taking place on Sunday at 4.30. This is the final set of games before the first international break of the season.

Saturday 31st August (Kick off 3pm unless stated)

Southampton v Manchester United (12.30pm)

After a humiliating defeat at home to Crystal Palace where they once again missed a penalty, Manchester United now face a trip to the south coast to face a Saints side that picked up their first win of the season last weekend at Brighton. The Saints made life difficult for Liverpool at home last time at St Mary’s and I expect them to be a tough prospect for United, that said, I still feel United have just enough quality to get back to winning ways here. Tip – Man Utd to win – 21/20.

Chelsea v Sheffield United

After a solid victory away to Norwich, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard will be hoping his team can make it two wins in a row against another newly promoted side in Sheffield United. After picking up four points from their first three games, the Blades have started well in the EPL but this is a huge test for a team that doesn’t have much top flight experience and as such, while I can see the Blades scoring, I do feel Chelsea will run out comfortable winners. Tip – Chelsea to win – 1/3.

Crystal Palace v Aston Villa

Both these teams picked up excellent wins last week against Man Utd and Everton respectively, but they are also both somewhat inconsistent and this is the game I feel is the toughest to predict this weekend. Palace, on paper, should win the game, but I feel Villa will have gained real confidence from that win over Everton and they could frustrate Palace here. I can’t see too many goals being scored in this one and I feel a draw is the likely outcome. Tip – Draw – 12/5.

Leicester City v Bournemouth

Both of these teams will be relatively pleased with their start to the Bet365 Soccer Spinsseason and I felt Bournemouth gave a good account of themselves in the game with Man City last weekend, despite a 3-1 defeat. However, I feel Leicester are going to be a real surprise team this season and I fancy Brendan Rodgers men to perhaps creep into that top six and as such, I am expecting the home side to take the points here. Tip – Leicester City to win – 4/6.

Manchester City v Brighton

Last season, Manchester City clinched the Premier League title on the final day with a comprehensive 4-1 win over Brighton on the south coast. I can’t see anything but a torrid afternoon in store for Graham Potter’s team against a City side who already look to be back in the groove that they showed last season. City will win this game, it is just a case of how many by and if they click, the answer to that could be several. Tip – Man City to win – 1/12.

Newcastle Utd v Watford

Newcastle confounded the critics with a battling win away to Tottenham last time out, Joelinton scoring his first goal for the club. Watford are on a slippery slope having lost all three of their opening games and in truth, they haven’t really looked like winning any. Given that run of form, I can’t really see things improving for them a great deal here. Tip – Newcastle United to win – 29/20.

West Ham v Norwich City

After contrasting fortunes in the Football League Cup in midweek, I think West Ham will be in the better state of mind having now landed two wins in a row. Norwich played well against Chelsea at home but their defending leaves a lot to be desired and I think on the road, that will be an even bigger problem. The Hammer’s attack is starting to click a little better now and they should be good enough to get the three points in this game. Tip – West Ham to win – 17/20.

Burnley v Liverpool (5.30pm)

Burnley have looked very sharp this season and they will face a bet365-early-soccer-payoutLiverpool side with the only 100% unblemished record in the Premier League. As good as Burnley have been, I just feel Liverpool are so focused at the moment that they have have enough quality in attack and midfield to get the job done here, even in testing circumstances. Tip – Liverpool to win – 1/3.

Sunday 1st September

Everton v Wolves (2pm)

Everton were poor in losing to Aston Villa last Friday night while Wolves picked up their third draw of the season thanks to a late penalty equaliser from Raul Jiminez against Burnley. Wolves will feel they need a win but Goodison Park is a tough place to go and pick that up and in truth, I think this is a game that has a score draw written large in its future. Tip – Draw – 23/10.

Arsenal v Tottenham (4.30pm)

Both these teams lost last week, Spurs at home to Newcastle and Arsenal away to Liverpool, so this is a game which will have added importance for both as a defeat could leave them well off the pace being set at the top of the table. Home advantage is crucial in these games and I just feel Arsenal, despite that Anfield loss, are just playing the better at the moment, which means they are my pick in what should be an entertaining game – Tip – Arsenal to win – 13/10.
