Premier League Gameday 5 is in the history books and it may well be remembered as one of the pivotal weeks of the season.

The top game of the weekend came at the Etihad, where Manchester City and Arsenal locked horns in what proved to be a game packed with incident, controversy and goals.

However, the other 18 teams were also in action across the weekend, so let’s recap how they all performed with our Premier League Gameday 5 review.

Premier League Gameday 5 – Results

West Ham United 0-3 Chelsea

Premier League Gameday 5

Chelsea caught West Ham napping in the early game on Saturday. The Blues blitzed the Hammers with a quick double-salvo from striker Nicolas Jackson. The Senegalese striker scored after four and 18 minutes to put Chelsea 2-0 up and leave the Hammers reeling.

If the home fans wanted a quick reaction in the second half, they didn’t get it. Instead, it was the visiting Chelsea fans celebrating once again as Cole Palmer added a third on 47 minutes. The win moved Chelsea to fifth in the Premier League table, with the Hammers dropping down to 14th place.

Aston Villa 3-1 Wolves

Aston Villa came from behind in the second home game running to clinch an important 3-1 victory over local rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers. Despite a good start from the home side, it was Wolves who took the lead in the first half. Matheus Cunha scoring the opening goal after 25 minutes.

Villa pushed hard for the equaliser but had to wait until the 73rd minute to get it. Ollie Watkins scoring his third Premier League goal in two games to bring them level. Ezri Konsa then put Villa deservedly in front before substitute Jhon Duran scored his fourth goal of the season, all as a substitute in the 94th minute to clinch the win for the home side.

The win moved Villa to third in the table, while other results ensured that Wolves ended Premier League Gameday 5 at the bottom of the table.

Fulham 3-1 Newcastle United

Newcastle United went down to their first defeat of the season as Marco Silva’s Fulham earned a deserved 3-1 win at Craven Cottage. The game began strongly with a chance for Newcastle before Raul Jimenez finished well to put Fulham 1-0 in front early in the game.

Soon the home side doubled their advantage with ex-Arsenal midfielder Emile Smith Rowe firing home a second. Newcastle looked flustered in the first half but just after halftime Harvey Barnes pulled one back to make a real game of it.

In an open game, which saw 38 shots on goal, with 16 on target, it was Fulham who secured the points when Reiss Nelson scored in the second minute of injury time to make it 3-1. Fulham moved to ninth in the table, while Newcastle dropped to sixth.

Leicester City 1-1 Everton

Everton collected their first point of the season to move off the bottom of the table after sharing the points in a 1-1 draw with Leicester City. The Toffees made a strong start to the game once again, with Iliman Ndiaye firing them in front after just 12 minutes.

This time, the visitors didn’t capitulate and instead they had 17 shots on goal compared to 12 for Leicester. However, it was the Foxes that scored the next with Stephy Mavididi firing home the leveller on 73 minutes.

With no further goals it left both teams still without a win this season with Leicester 15th in the table and Everton up one spot to 19th.

Liverpool 3-0 Bournemouth

Premier League Gameday 5

After last weekend’s shock 1-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest, Liverpool needed to bounce back at Anfield and they did precisely that with a dominant display against Bournemouth.

Bournemouth had an early goal ruled out by VAR for offside but after that it was all Liverpool in the first half. Luis Diaz scored a quickfire double on 26 and 28 minutes to put the Reds in control and Darwin Nunez crashed home a spectacular third on 37 minutes to put the Reds out of reach.

Bournemouth did have 19 shots on goal, the same as Liverpool, but the Reds defended well to secure a win which moved them second in the table. The Cherries now lie 13th with five points.

Southampton 1-1 Ipswich Town

Southampton came just moments from their first win back in the Premier League this season, but ultimately were denied by Ipswich Town.

The Saints began well and it was the in-demand young striker Tyler Dibling who put them 1-0 up after just five minutes. That was his first Premier League goal and his ability is attracting interest from a number of top Premier League sides.

In an even game, both teams could have scored but it took until the 95th minute for Ipswich to draw level when Sam Morsy found the net. The draw leaves both teams without a win this season with the Saints now 18th in the table and Ipswich one spot above them in 17th.

Tottenham 3-1 Brentford

The pressure eased on Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou after his team defeated Brentford 3-1 in an entertaining game for Premier League gameday 5 the Tottenham Hotspurs Stadium. Things didn’t begin well for the home team as Brentford scored a very early goal for the second game in succession, Bryan Mbuemo on hand to score after just 23 seconds.

It didn’t take long for Spurs to bounce back however as after eight minutes Dominic Solanke scored his first goal for his new club and then twenty minutes after that Brennan Johnson scored his second goal in two games to make it 2-1.

Late in the game, James Maddison added a third to confirm the victory which moves Spurs to 10th in the table and dropped Brentford down to 12th.

Crystal Palace 0-0 Manchester United

Crystal Palace and Manchester United battled out a goalless draw at Selhurst Park on Saturday evening. The visitors dominated possession and had more shots on goal and shots on target but found goalkeeper Dean Henderson in outstanding form for the Eagles against his former club.

Palace had arguably the best chance to win the game when Ebere Eze fired wide from 8 yards when he should have at least tested Andre Onana. The Cameroonian keeper also made a number of fine saves, including a penalty save from Mateta in the first half.

Brighton 2-2 Nottingham Forest

A dramatic Premier League gameday 5 at the AMEX saw one player and both managers sent off as well as four goals shared between the two teams. Forest went in front on 13 minutes when Callum Hudson-Odoi was brought down untidily in the box allowing Chris Wood to score the penalty emphatically.

Towards half time, Brighton began to exert real pressure and scored two high quality quick-fire goals. First Jack Hinshelwood scored a fantastic header to bring the scores level and then just three minutes later, Danny Welbeck’s free kick wrong-footed Mats Sels to nestle in the corner of the net and leave Brighton leading at the interval.

However, the second half saw Forest come back into it, Ramon Sosa benefitting from Jota Silva’s unselfishness to slot into an empty net to bring Forest level. Morgan Gibbs-White was sent off for a second yellow in an incident which also saw both managers red-carded as the game finished all-square.

Manchester City 2-2 Arsenal

Premier League Gameday 5

The big game of Premier League Gameday 5 was packed with incident and drama and eventually saw the spoils shared between last season’s top two in the Premier League. Manchester City made a fast start with Erling Haaland netting after just nine minutes.

City were dealt a blow on 20 minutes when Rodri went down injured and Mateo Kovacic came on to replace him.

Shortly after, Arsenal struck back in contentious fashion. A quickly taken free kick catching Kyle Walker out of position which eventually led to Riccardo Calafiori curling home an outstanding equaliser, much to the fury of the City players and manager.

Then on half time, Arsenal won a corner which Saka swung in for Gabriel to rise highest and power home a header at the far post to put Arsenal in front.

But the first half drama wasn’t over, in the eighth minute of added time, Leandro Trossard was handed a second yellow for kicking the ball away and was sent off, once again to the fury of the Arsenal management.

City laid siege to Arsenal in the second half, but the Gunners hung on until the 8th minute of injury time when John Stones fired City level to earn them a draw which keeps them top of the table, while Arsenal moved to 4th.
