I’ve decided to take a different approach to this week’s set of Champions League and Europa League tips. Rather than go through the games individually, I have decided to take a look at them from the perspective of a punter that enjoys accumulator betting (or parlay betting as it is also known in some parts of the world).

Not only is this form of betting very popular, as it can transform even a very small stake into a relatively large win, but it is also great fun to try and string together a selection of correct result predictions for games in a competition.

Although we warn you now, it is much trickier than it first appears to land a winning bet!

If you would like to have a flutter on the outcome of this weeks’ Champions League and Europa League games, or maybe back one of the accumulator bets shown for both competitions here, then the best place to do that is bet365 Sport. In the United States, accumulator betting is called parlay betting and it is also very popular stateside too. If you would like to find out more about the many different parlay betting offers available across the United States and where you can get them, you can find out all that information and plenty more too at the new site bestbetusa.com.

Let’s now take a look at some of the accumulator bets I would consider this week for the two midweek UEFA competitions, starting with the Champions League on Tuesday and Wednesday night this week, followed by the Europa League on Thursday night.

First leg results are shown in brackets.

Champions League Fixtures

Tuesday 9th March

  • Borussia Dortmund (3) v (2) Sevilla
  • Juventus (1) v (2) FC Porto

Wednesday 10th March

  • Liverpool (2) v (0) Red Bull Leipzig
  • Paris St Germain (4) v (1) Barcelona

I am looking at the two sets of games across both nights as a group of four for my first accumulator bet this week and in truth, this is a pretty tricky selection of matches to kick start your ‘acca betting’.

We will start with the game that I think is the most likely to be a correct prediction and that is Juventus v FC Porto. Juventus were somewhat surprising losers of the first leg in Portugal but on home soil, they have a good record against FC Porto and I would expect Cristiano Ronaldo and co to pick up a win here.

My next selection is from the following night. Any team that can beat Barcelona 4-1 on the road should be able to do likewise at home and as such, I am expecting Paris St Germain to complete the job against the Catalan side in Paris on Wednesday night by recording another win to ensure they make safe progress into the quarterfinals.

The next two games are trickier to predict. Sure, Dortmund won in Spain against Sevilla, so you’d think they would be a good bet to win at home, but Sevilla are a team I feel that are set up to play better away from home in Europe and Dortmund’s form is so flaky at the moment they are not a certainty. This is a tough call between the draw and home win, but I am backing Dortmund to just do enough to land the victory here.

That leaves me with Liverpool and Red Bull Salzburg with Liverpool leading 2-0 from the ‘away’ leg, although both home and away legs will be played at the Puskas Stadium in Hungary. I can’t see Leipzig being so defensively generous to the Reds on Wednesday but I feel that Liverpool will do just enough to ease through by securing a draw on the night.

That gives us the following Champions League accumulator bet at bet365 Sport:

  • Dortmund to beat Sevilla (6/5)
  • Juventus to beat FC Porto (4/9)
  • Liverpool & RB Leipzig to draw (5/2)
  • Paris St Germain to beat Barcelona (23/20)

This accumulator bet pays out at 22.91/1 with bet365 as you can see above.

You would also receive a 10% bonus as per the Accumulator Bonus promotion if the bet was successful.

Europa League Fixtures

Thursday 11th March

  • Ajax v Young Boys
  • Dynamo Kyiv v Villarreal
  • Manchester United v AC Milan
  • Slavia Prague v Rangers
  • Granada v Molde
  • Olympiakos v Arsenal
  • AS Roma v Shakhtar Donetsk
  • Tottenham v Dinamo Zagreb

What I have done for these games is compile one eightfold accumulator using all the games, which is a very difficult bet to land successfully, but I have also compiled a fourfold accumulator bet, which is considerably easier to land but which is a much lower odds option.

Our Europa League Eightfold Accumulator

  • Ajax v Young Boys – Ajax to win (3/5)
  • Dynamo Kyiv v Villarreal – Draw (5/2)
  • Manchester United v AC Milan – Draw (11/4)
  • Slavia Prague v Rangers – Draw (5/2)
  • Granada v Molde – Home Win (2/5)
  • Olympiakos v Arsenal – Away Win (10/11)
  • AS Roma v Shakhtar Donetsk – Home Win (11/20)
  • Tottenham v Dinamo Zagreb – Home Win (2/5)

This eightfold selection returns at odds of 425.28/1 with bet365 Sport.

However, on top of that, you would also receive a 25% bonus through the Accumulator Bonus offer.

Our Europa League Fourfold Acca

  • Ajax to beat Young Boys (3/5)
  • Man Utd and AC Milan to draw (11/4)
  • Granada to beat Molde (2/5)
  • Arsenal to beat Olympiakos (10/11)

This fourfold bet pays out with bet365 at odds of 15.03/1.

You would also receive a 10% bonus on top of that through the Acca Bonus promotion with bet365.

The Nature of Accumulator Betting

We have shown you these bets and selections for illustrative purposes only, to show you how accumulator betting works and also how the bonus offer at bet365 for accumulator bets also works. One thing you should be aware of is that accumulator betting does appear to be very simple, and it certainly is when placing the bets, but landing regular winners is incredibly difficult and you do require patience in order to land a successful bet.

However, given the nature of accumulator betting, you may only need to land one or two accumulator bets in a season to ensure you make a profit, depending on the odds on the selections you make, how many selections were in a successful bet and of course, the size of the bonus you received from bet365 when you landed that elusive winning bet.

Remember too, you don’t only have to bet on football or soccer games with accumulator bets. You can string together selections in many other sports too, both individual and team sports to enjoy more accumulator betting.

My Accumulator Tips For Punters Starting Out

I’ve been placing accumulator bets for many years, with a little success now and then to keep me interested. Outlined below are some tips I have learned over that time that I think can help you enjoy this form of betting more.

  • Find the draws – Draws pay out more than backing either team to win usually and often stringing together three draw selections will pay out better odds than picking four or five teams to win matches. Even when picking teams to win games, adding a draw selection or two can really increase the value of your odds.
  • Expect to lose – Even the best accumulator bettors don’t win that often. It is a very volatile bet to make. If you make 50 bets in a season and can hit one or two, then that is about the average for most punters.
  • Fewer Selections – While it is tempting to think of the riches that can lie ahead of you for a successful 12 or 13-selection accumulator, the chances of landing that bet are astronomically small. Pick fewer games for lower odds bets and your chances of landing a winner improve.
  • Don’t Back Away From Odds On Favourites – Some punters won’t back a team that is very likely to win a game if they are heavily odds on. I disagree with this, this usually means that this selection has a good chance of winning and adding it to your slip can result in a considerable additional amount to any winning accumulator bet.
  • Stick With What You Know – Follow the rules of betting responsibly. Stick to the leagues and teams you know and you should enjoy more accurate selections with your bets.
