We have already enjoyed some intriguing games in the first two weekends of Premier League action and in the fledgling table, two teams sit at the top with identical records. Chelsea and Liverpool have won both their games, scoring five goals and conceding none in the process.

And the two giants of English football will meet this coming weekend at Anfield in what is the final set of fixtures before the first international break of the new season.

Brighton and Tottenham are the only other teams to have maximum points from their opening two games so far, although both West Ham and Leicester, who play each other Monday night, can join that elite group at the top of the table with a victory in that game.

It all promises to be an exciting weekend of action and if you would like to enjoy a bet on the outcome, then when it comes to betting on the Premier League Bet365 Games and number of market selections for each of the matches really is second to none.

Before we take a look at Matchday 3’s tips, we will first recap what happened in the EPL on Matchday 2.

Premier League Matchday 2 Recap

  • Liverpool 2-0 Burnley
  • Aston Villa 2-0 Newcastle United
  • Crystal Palace 0-0 Brentford
  • Leeds United 2-2 Everton
  • Manchester City 5-0 Norwich City
  • Brighton 2-0 Watford
  • Southampton 1-1 Manchester United
  • Wolves 0-1 Tottenham
  • Arsenal 0-2 Chelsea
  • West Ham v Leicester City – playing Monday night 8pm UK Time.

Wins for Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs and Brighton saw them become the only teams with a 100% winning record from their opening two games. Leicester or West Ham can emulate that tonight with a victory in their clash.

Manchester City recovered from their loss at Spurs to record a big 5-0 win over Norwich City, who are bottom of the table. Arsenal, suffering their worst ever start to an EPL season, lie just one space above them after another 2-0 defeat, this time at home to Chelsea and with their next game away at Manchester City, it doesn’t get any easier for Mikel Arteta.

Southampton earned a very good draw against Manchester United at St Mary’s while Everton and Leeds fought out an entertaining draw. Aston Villa picked up their first win of the season too as they defeated Newcastle 2-0 at home.

Premier League Matchday 3 Preview & Tips

All odds shown were correct with bet365 Sport at the time of writing.

Saturday 28th August

  • Manchester City v Arsenal

City bounced back to winning ways last weekend and thumped Norwich City at home and they face an Arsenal side who have lost both their opening games and looked very lacklustre in both at times. I can’t see things improving any here for Mikel Arteta’s team and I feel City will run out relatively comfortable winners. Prediction – Manchester City to win – 1/4

  • Newcastle United v Southampton

It’s not been a great start for Newcastle and that is something of an understatement. Southampton are just one point ahead of Newcastle in the table, but five places better off and in truth, their performances have been much better so far this campaign. I am a little concerned for Newcastle this season and I think that Southampton may make the long-distance travel up north and claim a point here. Prediction – Draw – 23/10.

  • Brighton v Everton

Brighton will be delighted with their start to the season. Two wins in a row see them in a lofty third place in the table and they face an Everton side with four points from their two games. Rafa Benitez has made a decent start at Goodison Park and I can’t see them being beaten here either, but I also feel the Seagulls are in good enough form to claim something from the game too. Prediction – Draw – 11/5.

  • West Ham v Crystal Palace

This could be a chance for West Ham to go top of the table if they beat Leicester on Monday and they face a Crystal Palace side yet to score this season under Patrick Vieira. The Eagles did earn a draw at home to Brentford at the weekend but that won’t inspire huge confidence against a West Ham team that are seeking to continue their excellent form of last season here. I think they will do precisely that. Prediction – West Ham to win – 4/7.

  • Norwich City v Leicester City

It hasn’t been the easiest start for Norwich. Liverpool, then Man City, then Leicester, all of whom finished in the top five of the Premier League last season. Daniel Farke’s team have been dealt a tough start by the fixture computer and in truth, I can’t see things improving for them any here against a very talented and difficult to beat Leicester City side. Prediction – Leicester City to win – 7/10.

  • Aston Villa v Brentford

A clash between Dean Smith’s current and former clubs sees Brentford go into this game unbeaten in two matches so far. They are a point ahead of Villa in the table and Thomas Frank will be delighted with the start his team has made. This looks a tough trip for the Bees though against a Villa side who saw Danny Ings score an incredible overhead kick in their 2-0 win over Newcastle last weekend. That will be a huge confidence boost to the striker and I think he will fire them to the win here. Prediction – Aston Villa to win – Evens.

  • Liverpool v Chelsea

The top two, with identical records, clash at Anfield in what is always one of the top games of the season. Chelsea were victors at Anfield last season in the middle of Liverpool’s terrible run of home form, but the Reds have bounced back and look much more like the team that won the Premier League a couple of years back. This should be a cracker between two genuine title contenders with German managers, but I feel with home advantage, Liverpool may just have the edge. Prediction – Liverpool to win – 7/5.

Sunday 29th August

  • Burnley v Leeds United

Burnley will probably feel a little aggrieved that they don’t have any points on the board as yet. They should have grabbed a point at least against Brighton and played well at Anfield in defeat too. Leeds have picked up a point from their home game with Everton but they will know how tough these Yorkshire v Lancashire games can be. Even so, I still feel the away side should be confident of landing the win here. Prediction – Leeds to win – 6/5.

  • Tottenham v Watford

Tottenham Hotspur fans will be thrilled with the start their team have made, even with Harry Kane only making a single appearance as a late substitute in their second game. Watford were well beaten last weekend by Brighton and this is another very tough away game for them. Nuno Santos has set up his Spurs team well for both their matches so far this season and I’d expect them to come away with the win from this one too. Prediction – Tottenham to win – 4/11.

  • Wolves v Manchester United

Having drawn at Southampton, Manchester United face another tricky away trip to Wolves, a team that are yet to pick up a point this season after two narrow 1-0 defeats. It always looked a tough start for the home side against Leicester, Spurs and then Manchester United, and I think they may have to wait a little longer to claim their first point of the season. For me, United should win this game. Prediction – Manchester United to win – 4/6.
