Introduction to Fantasy Premier League

Fantasy Premier League (FPL) is a popular online game where participants create virtual teams of real-life football players. These teams earn points based on the players’ performances in actual Premier League matches.

The goal is to accumulate the highest points possible by making strategic decisions on player selections, transfers, and captain choices.

There are many different fantasy games based on the Premier League including the official FPL game, and bet365 Fantasy also has its own Fantasy EPL competition too.

This article provides comprehensive tips, selections to consider, news, and guidance for FPL managers, especially focusing on Gameweek 5 (GW5).

To consider the potential players to move for in Gameweek 5, we need to consider the full set of fixtures for that Gameweek.

Gameweek 5 Fantasy Premier League Fixtures

  • West Ham United v Chelsea
  • Aston Villa v Wolves
  • Fulham v Newcastle United
  • Southampton v Ipswich Town
  • Tottenham v Brentford
  • Leicester City v Everton
  • Liverpool v Bournemouth
  • Crystal Palace v Manchester United
  • Brighton v Nottingham Forest
  • Manchester City v Arsenal

Let’s now take a look at what these fixtures mean in terms of the potential to pick up some extra points on Gameweek 5.

FPL Gameweek 5 – Buy, Hold, Sell Analysis

The key to great Fantasy Premier League management is to buy the right players for the right game weeks to maximise the points they contribute to your team. Additionally, you need to sell players back to the market when their match up isn’t favourable and it is likely they will contribute fewer points to your team.

Also important is the ability to hold onto key players who make regular and consistent contributions to your team throughout the season. Especially seeing as you only have one Free Transfer per week to use other than using the Wildcard option.

We have outlined some of the players to consider buying, selling and those you should hold onto for Gameweek 5 below. Obviously, if you don’t own the player listed in the Hold section below, you could also consider adding them to your squad.

Captain’s Picks for GW5

Fantasy Premier League Gameweek 5

Erling Haaland is the defacto choice for skipper and even a game against Arsenal is one where he seems likely to score, so if he is in your team, he is still likely a strong consideration.

Any Arsenal player is less appealing given they face City this week. After drawing a blank against Forest last time out, Mo Salah and Luis Diaz are potential considerations as Liverpool face Bournemouth at home.

Items for Consideration for Fantasy Premier League Gameweek 5

  • A number of potential big points scorers could return from injury this week. Including Phil Foden (Man City) and Rasmus Hojlund (Manchester United). Keep an eye on their fitness and how they are being used by their respective managers.
  • Liverpool’s creative midfielders Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai are not in the best of form. Don’t be too surprised if Arne Slot shuffles the pack a little at some point perhaps starting against Bournemouth this weekend.
  • Declan Rice returns for Arsenal to face Manchester City. Rodri could be set for a return to the first team for City for this crucial game.
  • Ashley Barnes (Newcastle) has had an excellent start to the season despite starting several games as sub. He is one to strongly consider if he starts to feature regularly in the first XI at St James’ Park.
  • He may be erratic on the field, but in Fantasy, Man Utd ‘keeper Andre Onana is a reliable points scorer. Matthijs de Ligt looks like being another good pick up in defence given his threat going forward too.

Good luck with your picks and check back next Monday for more Fantasy Premier League hints and tips!
