Earlier this week, we brought you our tips on how we see the Championship, League One and League Two seasons going over the course of the coming season, which starts this coming weekend. In this second part of the article, we are now switching our attention to the top division in England and the most popular league across the globe, the Premier League.

This coming weekend sees 16 of the 20 teams in the division open their campaign, with Manchester City, Manchester United, Burnley and Aston Villa having to delay their start for a week due to City and United having been given a week extra to prepare for the new season after having been involved in the latter stages of European competition back at the start of August.

Even so, there are still a number of cracking games to get the season underway including Everton’s trip to face Tottenham on Sunday plus newly promoted Championship winners Leeds United beginning their season with a daunting trip to Anfield to take on the current Premier League Champions, Liverpool.  Big-spending Chelsea get their season underway on Monday night away to Brighton.

With the season starting this weekend, it is also a very important time of the year for football punters, many of whom will place their first bets of the season on markets such as who will win the Premier League, who will get relegated, which teams will finish in the top six or which player will be crowned the Top Goalscorer this season, or maybe the PFA Player of the Year. Let’s now take a look ahead at the Premier League season and give you our top tips for the most popular bets likely to be made over the coming weeks.

Premier League – Champions and Top Six

It is usually the same names that occupy the top six spots in the Premier League this season but I think there may be one surprise as to who finishes 6th in the table, but the rest should be all very familiar names to every football fan.

I’ve backed Man City to land the title because with a shorter season and less time to play the games, the depth of their squad and ability to rotate with no drop in performance is going to be absolutely vital. I expect Liverpool to chase them close, but I think the Reds don’t have that same depth of quality in their squad and that may be the difference-maker.

I think Chelsea will close the gap on both of these teams from last season to finish third and I see Manchester United rounding out the top four, especially if Bruno Fernandes can continue his excellent form since signing for the club.

The more interesting selections come in 5th and 6th where I have gone for Arsenal to push hard for a top four spot but just to finish just shy of it and my shock pick is Wolves to pip Spurs and Leicester to sixth in the table as I like the way the club is developing and they have made some shrewd moves in the transfer market in the pre-season too.

Champions – Manchester City (4/5)

Champions League Qualifiers (2nd, 3rd, 4th) – Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United

Europa League Qualifier (5th, 6th) – Arsenal & Wolves

Premier League – Relegation Battle

If the race for the top six is usually somewhat predictable, who goes down is a much Bet365 Poker EPLmore open race usually and often the newly promoted teams feature heavily in this bet. However, this year I feel that Fulham and Leeds United probably have just enough to remain in the top division for one more season at least, but I do fear for West Brom as I don’t see the same quality in that squad that I see in the other teams likely to be around them.

I also feel Crystal Palace could be in trouble. Roy Hodgson has done a great job there but the team hasn’t really moved on over the last three years and I fear that things are stagnating a little at Selhurst Park. They finished last season very poorly too and I think that not making a change in manager at the end of last season may be a mistake.

My final pick was much more difficult as I can see teams like West Ham, Brighton, Fulham and Aston Villa involved in the last relegation battle but I have gone for Villa here as I feel they are too dependent on Jack Grealish and spending almost £30m on a striker who has never played in the Premier League is a huge gamble, and one they may come to regret.

Relegated – 18th, 19th and 20th – Crystal Palace (2/1), Aston Villa (7/4), West Bromwich Albion (Evens)

Premier League – Top Goalscorer & Player of the Year

When it comes to popular individual accolade bets, there are two that immediately spring to mind and that is the race for the Top Goalscorer in the Premier League and who is crowned the PFA Player of the Year at the end of the season.

Starting with the Leading Goalscorer prize, for me there are two outstanding candidates, chiefly because the likes of Man City, Liverpool and Man Utd tend to share the goalscoring load amongst three, four or even five different attackers.

However, at Tottenham, Harry Kane shoulders the burden moreso than any other player and at Arsenal, my pick for the prize, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will do likewise. The Gabonese international has agreed to stay at Arsenal and it seems like Arteta is building a team to get the best of him. He showed superb form towards the end of last season and in the Charity Shield and I think at 6/1, he is a very good price at the moment and I can see that price getting shorter as the season progresses.

In terms of the Player of the Year prize, that is much more difficult to predict and literally any player could come from anywhere to win the prize, however it usually goes to a team in the top six and usually top two. After having a major impact on United since signing in January, I think Bruno Fernandes is a really intriguing option here at 12/1, though I would expect the likes of Mane, De Bruyne, Sterling, Aubameyang, van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold to push him hard.

Top Goalscorer – Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Arsenal) – 6/1

PFA Player of the Year – Bruno Fernandes (Man Utd) – 12/1
