Manager – Jurgen Klopp

Predicted Starting XI – (4-3-3) – Karius, Alexander-Arnold, Robertson, Van Dijk, Lovren, Henderson, Milner, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Mane, Firmino, Salah

This is the first time in ten years that Liverpool have reached the semi-finals and the first time since 1984 that they won’t have faced a British opponent (Chelsea) at thie stage of the tournament. The Reds are the leading scorers in this years competition with 33 goals and defensively they have improved a great deal since Loris Karius became the regular number one and Virgil van Dijk was signed in the winter transfer window.

Manager – Eusebio Di Francesco

Predicted Starting XI – (4-5-1) – Alisson, Florenzi, Kolarov, Fazio, Manolas, Strootman, Nainggolan, De Rossi, Perotti, Dzeko, Peres

This is the first time Roma have reached the semifinals of this competition since 1984, when they reached the final only to lose to Liverpool at their home ground. Their incredible comeback win over Barcelona in the home leg after a 4-1 defeat on the road will give them a massive boost for this game against a team with the highest scoring attack in this year’s Champions League.

Liverpool v AS Roma Tips

This could be a cracking tie as both sides are not the best defensively and both can score goals. Both are in good form too heading into this game, but I think home advantage will be crucial for Liverpool here. Anfield is a special place on big European nights and it will be a hugely intimidating place for the visitors to play. I’m backing Liverpool to win, but I do think Roma will find the net which will make the second leg very interesting.

Tip – Liverpool to win and both teams to score – 9/5 with Coral

Manager – Jupp Heynckes

Predicted Starting XI – (4-3-3) – Ulreich, Hummels, Martinez, Alaba, Boateng, Ribery, Vidal, James, Robben, Lewandowski, Kimmich

Bayern Munich are still unbeaten at home in any competition this season and though Real Madrid have a decent record at the Allianz Arena of late, that record will frighten any side taking the trip over. Bayern have quietly moved through the group and knockout phases very well and only PSG have beaten them in the competition this season.

Real Madrid Preview

How they reached the final

Real Madrid qualified directly to the group stage of the tournament.

Group Stage – Group H

  • Real Madrid 3-0 Apoel
  • Borussia Dortmund 1-3 Real Madrid

  • Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 Real Madrid
  • Apoel 0-6 Real Madrid
  • Real Madrid 3-2 Borussia Dortmund

Group H Table

Pos Team Pts
1 Tottenham Hotspur 16

Knockout Phase

Round of 16

  • Real Madrid 3-1 Paris St Germain
  • Paris St Germain 1-2 Real Madrid (2-5 on aggregate)

Quarterfinal

  • Juventus 0-3 Real Madrid
  • Real Madrid 1-3 Juventus (4-3 on aggregate)

Manager – Zinedine Zidane

Predicted Starting XI – (4-3-3) – Navas, Carvajal, Marcelo, Ramos, Varane, Casemiro, Modric, Kroos, Isco, Bale, Ronaldo

After stuttering somewhat against Tottenham in the group stages Real Madrid found their best form in the knockout phase defeating Paris St Germain 5-2 on aggregate and then seemingly taking an unassailable 3-0 lead from their first leg of the quarter final against Juventus in Turin. However, it took a controversial 98th minute penalty from Cristiano Ronaldo to put Real through after Juventus went 3-0 up in Madrid in the return leg. Those defensive frailties will need to be exorcised ahead of the trip to Munich.

Bayern Munich v Real Madrid Tips

The smart money here is heading on a Bayern Munich win and I can see why. Their home record this season is phenomenal and Real Madrid have shown on occasions this season both in the Champions league and domestically, that they do not always get it right. Bayern are efficient and clinical and if they attack Real’s defence, which is their weakness, I thinkt they stand a good chance of a win, though I do also feel Real will be good for a goal on the night.

Tip – Bayern Munich to win and Both teams to score- 12/5 with Coral.
