Carabao Cup Quarter-Finals – Big Game Showdowns And Tips!

After a cracking weekend of Premier League action, we are now turning our attention to the forthcoming Carabao Cup Quarter-Finals that take place this week.

All four matches feature teams from the Premier League but just two teams from the top five in the table at the time of writing.

All four Carabao Cup Quarter-Finals games are being shown live on Sky Sports in the UK, with staggered start times for the three games on Wednesday evening.

Bet365 Sport is offering extensive betting markets on all of the four Carabao Cup quarter finals. All of which will go straight to penalties in the event of a draw at the end of 90 minutes.

Last season’s Carabao Cup Winners, Liverpool, are among the eight teams battling to secure a spot in the two-legged semi-finals in January.

Let’s now take a closer look at the four Carabao Cup Quarter-Finals this week.

Carabao Cup Quarter-Finals

Wednesday 18th December

Arsenal v Crystal Palace (7.30pm)

The first of the Carabao Cup quarter-finals this week is a London derby as Arsenal host Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners come into this game on the back of a 0-0 draw at home to Everton at the weekend, not the result that manager Mikel Arteta would have wanted especially with Liverpool dropping points too. However, on a more positive note, Arsenal have won the last four games against Crystal Palace relatively comfortably.

In contrast to Arsenal, Palace come into this game at the weekend on the back of an excellent 3-1 win away to Brighton. Oliver Glasner’s team have not enjoyed a great start to their Premier League campaign so that win was a timely boost heading into this game.

Newcastle United v Brentford (7.45pm)

Newcastle United are still looking for a first piece of silverware under their new owners and the home side will fancy their chances against a Brentford team yet to win an away game in the Premier League this season.

Additionally, the home fans were treated to a thumping performance at the weekend when they thrashed Leicester City 4-0 in the Premier League. Brentford had a different experience though going down to a narrow 2-1 defeat away to Chelsea.

Earlier this month Brentford defeated Newcastle 4-2 in the Premier League, but prior to that Newcastle United had won all of the previous five games against the Bees. They have not lost a home game to Brentford since the first match between the two in September 1934!

Southampton v Liverpool (8.00pm)

After sacking their manager following a 5-0 home defeat to Tottenham at the weekend, Southampton come into this Carabao Cup Quarter-finals tie against league leaders Liverpool with a caretaker manager and the prospect of trying to defeat a team that has lost just once this season.

However, with nothing to lose, Southampton can go for the jugular against Liverpool, a team that they only narrowly lost to a few weeks back when the Reds won 3-2 in the Premier League.

Arne Slot’s team come into this game on the back of a run of two draws in their last three games. A 3-3 draw at Newcastle was followed by a 1-0 win over Girona in the Champions League then at the weekend, they drew 2-2 at home to Fulham after playing the majority of the game with ten men following Andy Robertson’s sending off.

Arne Slot may decide to rest some players for this game, especially with problems at left-back. This may well give Southampton a real chance of causing an upset.

Carabao Cup Quarter-Finals

Thursday 19th December

Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester United (8pm)

Perhaps the biggest of the four Carabao Cup Quarter-finals sees Tottenham Hotspurs take on Manchester United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The teams have met once already this season in the Premier League at Old Trafford, with Tottenham coming away as the victorious 3-0 winners in that game.

Since then, Manchester United have sacked Erik Ten Hag and appointed Ruben Amorim as their new manager and while results have been mixed since he took over, they produced a sensational comeback at the weekend to beat Manchester City 2-1 in the league, scoring two goals in the last two minutes to clinch the win.

Tottenham had things a lot easier as they produced a rampant first-half display to dismantle Southampton 5-0 at St Mary’s. James Maddison was one of the architects of that win, scoring twice in a game that led to Southampton sacking manager Russell Martin.

Spurs are unbeaten in their last four against Manchester United, drawing two games (both buy a 2-2 scoreline) and winning the other two matches.
