After making a stunning start to the 2021/22 season, the Arizona Cardinals fell away in the second half of the season, finishing second in their division and exiting the playoffs somewhat tamely.

One of the oldest franchises in the NFL, formed in 1898, the team has played in both the NFC East and NFC West, the latter from 2002 onwards. Initially based in Chicago, the team moved to St Louis in 1960, before moving on to Arizona in 1987.

The Cardinals begin the regular season with a tough opener at home to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Arizona Cardinals – Strengths

  • A decent quarterback, but one who blows hot and cold at times and needs to be more consistent.
  • Solid on offense with a number of weapons available to them.
  • Defensive line is excellent, when fit.

Arizona Cardinals – Weaknesses

  • DeAndre Hopkins will miss the first 6 weeks of the season. A big blow for the team.
  • Age and injuries mean the defensive line may not last the full season.
  • There are still plenty of questions regarding the secondary.

Season Predictions & Top Betting Picks For The Arizona Cardinals

  • Regular Season Record Prediction – 7-10
  • Playoffs? – No
  • Super Bowl Winning Odds – 30/1
  • Conference Champion Odds – 14/1
  • Divisional Winner Odds – 16/5
  • Best Player on Offense – Kyler Murray (QB)
  • Best Player on Defense – J.J.Watt (DE)
  • Best Rookie – Cam Thomas (DE)
  • Surprise Of The Season – Cardinals to struggle surprisingly on defense and be off the pace in the NFC West.

The one worry I have for the Cardinals, who are undeniably a good team when all fit, is their fitness levels and age. Once their defensive line got banged up last season, the team’s defense all but evaporated and so did their blistering start.

I don’t see the depth any more with Chandler Jones gone and I think as such, the Cards defensive issues are going to be the main factor this season.
