Tuesday 7th and Wednesday 8th March – Champions League

Fixtures (first leg score in brackets):

  • Arsenal v Bayern Munich (1-5)
  • Napoli v Real Madrid (1-3) both taking place Tuesday 7.45pm
  • Barcelona v Paris St Germain (0-4)
  • Borussia Dortmund v Benfica (0-1) both taking place Wednesday 7.45pm

It’s a crucial week for these eight teams as they battle for a place in the quarter finals. Bayern Munich and Paris St Germain both take four goal leads into their second leg games and both will be confident of progressing.  Real Madrid hold a two goal lead over Napoli that should be enough to see them through, especially if they can score in the San Paolo, while the Dortmund v Benfica clash is balanced on a knife edge and promises to be the closest of all four second leg games.

Champions League Tips

My first tip here is for the Barcelona v Paris St Germain game. Given the current scoreline from the first leg, Barcelona will know that they have no option but to try and score as many goals as possible, but that does leave them open to conceding a goal on the counter attack. However, if there is one team in Europe that can come back from a 4-0 first leg deficit, it is the Messi, Neymar and Suarez inspired Catalans.

So my first tip here is for you to back Barcelona to win and both teams to score, which is a much more appetising 7/5 with Bet365 than simply backing Barcelona to win at shorter than even money.

My second tip is to back something of a shock in the second game on Wednesday. While I think Dortmund will probably win on the evening, I am not convinced they will do so without conceding a goal against a talented and underrated Benfica side. If Benfica do score, Dortmund will need three goals and that is a tall ask against a team that has won all of its last six games.

As such, I think the better than even money 11/10 available on Benfica to qualify with Bet365 is a superb bet.

For Tuesday night’s games, things are not quite so straightforward. It will be interesting to see how Bayern Munich and Arsenal approach this game. Will it be damage limitation for Arsenal, or will Wenger’s men have a real go and risk another heavy defeat? Will Bayern play their usual open attacking game, or just keep things tight and hit on the counter?

Personally, I feel Arsenal will be more focused on avoiding another damaging defeat, while Bayern will be happy to keep Arsenal at arms length knowing that even a 1-0 defeat or draw isn’t going to do any damage on their large first leg advantage. As such, I think the 14/5 available on the draw with Bet365 is a solid option and similarly, backing Real Madrid to pick up a share of the spoils against Napoli at the same price is also a good bet.

Euro Soccer Bonus Bet

You can put together a nice little fivefold accumulator for the Champions League games on Tuesday and Wednesday, plus Wednesday’s Premier League clash between Man City and Stoke City.  Here’s the bet that I am going to put down for these games:

  • Arsenal v Bayern Munich – draw  – 14/5
  • Napoli v Real Madrid – draw – 14/5
  • Barcelona v PSG – Barcelona win – 9/20
  • Borussia Dortmund v Benfica – Dortmund Win – 4/11
  • Manchester City v Stoke – Man City win – 1/4

This fivefold returns at odds of 34.68/1 with Bet365 Sport and as it qualifies for the Euro Soccer Bonus, you would be eligible for a 20% bonus paid on top of your winnings which means if you bet £10, you would not win back £346.80, but would earn back £416.16, plus your stake money back, which is £69.36 more.

Thursday 9th March – Europa League

There’s a busy night of action on Thursday too with the Round of 16 of the Europa League getting under way, with the 16 teams remaining battling it out for a place in the quarter finals. The fixtures to be played on Thursday, four at 18:00 and four at 20:05 are as follows:

  • APOEL Nicosia v Anderlecht (18:00)
  • Gent v Genk (18:00)
  • FK Rostov v Manchester United (18:00)
  • Schalke 04 v Borussia Moenchengladbach (18:00)
  • Celta Vigo v Krasnodar (20:05)
  • FC Copenhagen v Ajax (20:05)
  • Lyon v AS Roma (20:05)
  • Olympiakos v Besiktas (20:05)

What I have done for this selection of games is gone through the matches and put together an eightfold accumulator bet. However, this bet will not qualify for the Euro Soccer Bonus this time around as it is only Champions League games out of the European competitions that are part of that offer.

Here’s my choice of results:

  • APOEL Nicosia v Anderlecht – Home Win at 7/4
  • Gent v Genk (18:00) – Home Win at 10/11
  • FK Rostov v Manchester United – Draw at 13/5
  • Schalke 04 v Borussia Moenchengladbach (18:00) – Draw at 23/10
  • Celta Vigo v Krasnodar – Home Win at 8/13
  • FC Copenhagen v Ajax – Home Win at 7/5
  • Lyon v AS Roma – Draw at 12/5
  • Olympiakos v Besiktas – Draw at 23/10

This eightfold bet would offer you odds of a massive 2547.61/1 if you managed to land it which would see a £10 bet turn into a massive £25,476.10 win, with your £10 stake money back.
